Great interview with Dan Beyer. Is he as interesting in person as his is in your post?
Another nice touch about your story was the black and white photograph a few days ago of one of his dodecahdrons near South Station, anyway I assume it was his.
Who remembers other sidewalk artists in Boston since Sidewalk Sam?
Does Dan consider himself an artist, an intellectual or a guy with a sense of humor and a hobby?

You may have found the perfect spot for a young journalist. This is a great place to learn to bridge the future of news as we all learn to contribute to the information flow, question what we are told and make our own judgements about who has the important and interesting information.
I agree that theDan Beyer story was interesting and well reported.
I hope Ms. Galloway's personal biases don't creep into hard news
By O-FISH-L

I wish Ms. Galloway great success in her career. Here's hoping that the moderately anti-American and extremely anti-Republican sentiments ("I don’t need anymore republican, conservative bullshit in my life") that she writes on her blog http://lexgalloway.tumblr.com/ don't creep into the hard news reportage at UHub or taint its reputation for fairness.

By Anonymous
Thu, 02/03/2011 - 9:41am
This is typical Republican conservative bullshit. Make a claim without citing the specific evidence so readers can make an informed judgment about the claim. So I'll ask, what do you read as "anti-American" in her Lex' blog?
As far as anti-republican, who can blame her? Were you living during the Bush Administration? We're all still enduring the effects of the great recession that came at the end of his eight craptastic years of Bush Cheney policy. Remember when we invaded a country illegally on fraudulent WMD intel and instituted torture? Admit it, Bush and Cheney should be on the dock for war crimes. Ok atypical Republican conservative bullshit but Republican conservative bullshit nonetheless.

I mean, unless you're Dooce...
I think there's a difference between "having a somewhat different manner in one's personal and professional life" and "saying stuff in one's personal life that's completely incompatible with doing one's job ethically."
On my blog and with my friends I do a lot of swearing and innuendo and make juvenile comments that wouldn't be appropriate with my clients. So, you know, I don't say such things with my clients. I think this is pretty normal. It would be a different story if I blogged about how the populations I work with suck, my employer sucks, the field I work in sucks, etc.

Fishy never paid much attention in school. The sisters would beat him for not knowing the difference between a noun and an adjective. Here the noun is bullshit. The adjectives are republican and conservative.
Ms. Galloway is very right as a journalist to want to reduce the bullshit in life, no matter how modified.
Fishy, on the other hand, appears dedicated to bringing more bullshit into our lives, so long as it may be modified by the adjectives republican or conservative.

Well obviously I need to retune my northern New England radar - I definitely had you in the New Hampshire column (Granite State of Mind Style), but then again, I always thought a big part of the NEK is really more like NH and the area around Keene can be more like VT. In any case, I echo your welcome to Lexis.
On a unrelated note, are the NH people still gloating about the Supreme Court case from the 1930s that set the border at the low water mark of the CT River on the VT side? I had a strange conversation with some folks some years back when that nonsense about Killington seceding to join NH was underway.

Yes, facts sure to have a uncanny ability to be facts.
Journalists far too often use false equivalence as a method to appear "fair", when in reality they're throwing accurate out the window.
If it's agreed that 99.5% of people know something and agree, and .5% don't, report that. Don't say Joe says this, but bob says the other.

Most -if not all- of the birthers and islamophobes that I've encountered can't form complete sentences, so would not make great journalism interns. And given that most interns are college students, they likely have worldviews that have evolved beyond such infantile beliefs.

Eeka has been here about 87 years. I seem to recall her saying she was born here on this site, and that it's not the same neighborhood it once was. However, she's a lesbian, so we ignore her.
SwirlyGirl is a euphemism. We're not sure for what. Otherwise, she's a decent punster and a total pain in the ass. Or vice-versa.
