Davis Square LiveJournal members are speculating that an oil sheen seen today on the Somerville Community Path may have originated from a diesel fuel spill yesterday afternoon on Route 128 in Lexington. Participants report oil slick sightings on streets in Stoneham, Arlington, Cambridge, and elsewhere.

Nothing really happens until it affects bicycle riders.

I can't really take DSLJ seriously anymore. Maybe I'm an old yuppie or something but.. I just can't connect with those people, and half the posts are some kind of misery fest.
More pedestrians than cyclists use this path

I called it the "bike path" to keep the headline short, but its official name is Somerville Community Path. It has a lot more pedestrian users than cyclists at most times of day.
Link?

Is this on the main Davis Square livejournal page or a personal LJ? The link above takes me to a page saying I need access rights and I don't see any posts relating to this on the main Davis Square page.

I didn't realize it until just now, but whoever posted this to DSLJ posted it with "friends only" permission, so that only members of the community could read it. I've asked him to change this. Thanks for letting me know.
Edit: It's fixed now. Take another look.
So people think oil spilled

So people think oil spilled on Route 128 near Route 2A, cars drove through it, transported it on their tires the 9 or 10 miles to Davis Square, and then enough people then walked through it to cover "the entirety of the bike path" in oil? Hmmm ...
I could understand seeing oil on the roads of Arlington and Burlington as some people mention, but I am guessing there is another source for the oil on the bike path.
