Revere braces for trouble, well, Boston high-school kids
By adamg on Thu, 06/09/2011 - 11:42am
Local and State Police are on high alert: They've gotten word that many Boston high-school students brought bathing suits with them to school and are planning to head for the beach. Revere hates Boston kids with the blinding passion of 10,000 suns, so of course they're already closing roads and bringing in extra officers and prisoner transport vans.

Wait, what?
Adam, are these "Boston High School" students or BPS highschool students in general? Sorry, it's sometimes confusing to distinguish the two in news stories.
Other than that, geez Revere, it's going to be in the high 90s today, give the students a break. What good will blocking them do? At worst, they'll flock to Quincy and their beach and lose the business and loose cash they have with them.
Gang Fight
It doesn't sound like they are bracing for trouble - it sounds like they are LOOKING for trouble - or hoping to make some themselves.
Oh the horrors of people having a civil right to go to a public beach!
This.
And this is a big reason why teens lack respect for this brand of authority.
I have to circumvent Revere on my way home from Chelsea to avoid this nonsense. Even Route 1 is looking pretty good if they're going to close roads.
Roadblocks and paddy wagons?
Would Revere do this if it was a bunch of white kids coming to town?
Would a bunch of white kids
Would a bunch of white kids cause the same problems?
Of course not
White kids are little angels. Everyone knows that.
and what problems have these
and what problems have these kids caused? Besides the crazy pre-panic, which, of course, isn't their fault.....
Yeah
Boston does it every time we win a title now.
Roadblocks and paddy wagons?
Paddy Wagons = Racist code phrase. If one can't use certain words starting in N and ending in R on these posts, then please do not use Paddy Wagon.
Racist code?
Paddy is a derivative of a given male name. Some people with that name have been arrested and transported in police wagons.
The n-word is not based on any proper name.
Not true. Paddy was slang
Not true. Paddy was slang for Irishmen back in the day. And if the term was LeroyWagon then it'd be pretty offensive.

Ask Brighton Beach...
...if they wish they prepared a little better.
For those who don't read the NY Post every day ...
Here's the story:
1 dead, 4 wounded in Brooklyn near Brighton Beach; suspect in custody
Silver lining
It's shaping up to be a great day for shopping in downtown crossing. Borders liquidation sale and a reduced chance of catching a stray bullet.
Taking issue with your characterization..
As a proud Revere High dropout, I can assure you, we only hated Malden and Winthrop kids.
And the previous entry?
And the previous entry? Boston School Police (!) called to Downtown Crossing to suppress crime.
It's called cognitive dissonance.
Yeah, I see where you're headed
But Downtown Crossing involves a pattern of actual violence, while Revere Beach involves a pattern of, um, kids going to the beach on a hot day.
No but you are close
While we have not had a shooting on the beach just yet, we do have an increase in petty crime and vandalism when the students come to visit. My point is they might get off the T at Revere Beach or Wonderland, but sitting on the sand or swimming in the ocean. That they do not do.
Carson Beach patrols stepped up
AlertNewEngland is following this all, reports on the extra security there and says kids are now streaming toward Revere from Brighton, South Boston and Stomeham.
Stoneham?
Once again defending my beloved Revere
The problem has nothing to do with large numbers of students going to the beach. If they got off the T, went to the beach and behaved, Revere would not care. We are not that lucky, they wander through the neighborhoods by the beach, hassle people coming off the train, or people like me walking my dog!
In the past they have trashed the small park by the beach, tried to steal sodas and snacks from the local stores. How is not wanting to live through THAT again make the people from Revere bad people?
When there were problems on the beach in South Boston a while back no one accused the people living near the beach of hating Boston students.
I just came back from the 4 block walk
First off, the only streets closed off are the ones that lead from the beach into the neighborhoods, Routes 16, 60 and 1A are still the general rush hour mess they always are.
The two streets on either side of the Revere Beach T stop are closed, and many of the shops on Shirley Rd have closed. The entire point is about to become moot because the wind has picked up and the sky is getting darker.
Why did the shops close?
This is an opportunity for them to win new business from a younger generation than usually shops or eats there.
Well they don't buy any thing
I don't know how to post pictures on Universal Hub, but. Revere Beach today this is the beach about an hour and a half ago. There are two ice cream shops and one Chinese restaurant offering window service. They were open, but no one was ordering food. The convenience store about a block up from the T stop was closed, last year they got hit pretty bad with kids stealing. I did not go all the way to my old stomping grounds, so I have no idea what happened on Oak Island.
People aren't listening to
People aren't listening to what fibro is saying though. And I understand that its important not to make blatant generalizations about all urban teens. The issue is that enough of these teens do end up causing enough trouble that it makes the most sense for people to be wary of the whole situation. Its not prejudice against the whole group, but if 10 people are together and 1 of them consistently destroys property and the group doesn't (more likely cannot) separate themselves, then Revere is allowed to defend itself. Like when the OTHER kids in class were throwing paper so NONE of us got to go to the planetarium! (bitter)
Its really unfair, but it doesn't make Revere bad people.
Revere...
HAH have Revere locals taken a good look at some of its own High School Students? HAHAHAHAH some of these "kids" would be glad to give BPHS students a run for their money (meaning they are just as bad)
Those Revere students don't
Those Revere students don't cause as much trouble because they're know in the community. They go elsewhere if they want to cause trouble.
I'm sorry, all you bleeding
I'm sorry, all you bleeding heart liberals, but wherever inner city teenagers show up (whether asian, black, latino, white, whatever) they cause TROUBLE. Gang fights, stabbings, teenagers with guns, the whole thing. Look at what happened at Carson Beach last week. I avoid the whole side by the JFK/UMass station just because it's near Dorchester, and gets swamped by thugs and gang-bangers. The same often happens to Revere Beach because of the proximity to the Blue Line and some unsavory characters from Revere itself, Lynn and Chelsea. Now I stick to the good side of Carson Beach (near the CYC and Castle Island) and Winthrop beach.) and sometimes even Nahant. Stop trying to make this a race issue, this is about ill-behaved teenagers who need to learn respect for others.
I live on Revere Beach and a
I live on Revere Beach and a few years ago it was skip day in Boston and it happened to be the first hot day. There were over 1000 kids on the beach. They were robbing all the stores, starting fights and also there was a stabbing. They had to shut down the beach. I was pretty scared and I had to leave. So that is why the State Troopers were there to protect us. It's pretty sad that I don't feel safe sitting or walking the beach. Forget walking after 5. They all stand in your way and don't move for you. The best time to walk or sit on the beach is before 2:00. So this is not about racism it's about protecting the rest of us who want to enjoy the beach with thier families.
It's only a matter of time...
...that what just happened down NYC happens here. Either Revere or Carson.
Who's to say that it hasn't already happened down in NYC?
More than half the s**t that goes on never makes the papers or the evening news anyway.
what happened in NYC?
I don't know what event you are referring to.
