This could get ugly.
Well, I guess it has really come to this, hasn't it?
While I dread the possiblity of what this will bring, I guess that this is where we are - if you can't raise fares, the money has to come from somewhere (I still say the T is too cheap for most rides, but apparently few others think so).
I shudder to think of what kind of outfit might want the naming rights for Longwood.
Can I buy naming rights to
Can I buy naming rights to Oak Grove and name it "The Result of Melrose NIMBYs"? or Alewife and name it "The Result of Lexington/Arlington Snobs"?
Um, you misspelled
Um, you misspelled "Arlington/Lexington racists".
So, for any of you who might
So, for any of you who might remember, this is perhaps the third time this idea was brought up since 2000. First off, no one wants to pay to have their names on Ashmont, Mattapan, fields corner etc - which as I recall were some of the ones in the offering.
Secondly, if done properly, it could garner some nice ash, for example:
-The Museum of Very Fine Arts
-Blue Mountain Coffee Line
-Orange Crush
-Brestnut Hill
Hahahaha, nerds.
How about Murderpan and Ass-mouth?
Keep it going kids!
Low hanging fruit
It seems like they could hit a lot more of the low hanging fruit- Ads on Charlie Cards/Tickets, banner ads, or better yet targeted ads on the website, ads on the ticket sales machines before they start confusing the hell out of people by changing names.
It seems like there's a large cost in reprinting maps, signage etc that the naming rights would have to offset before it makes them any money....
So frustrating
Why is it that the T needs to pay consultants to figure out how to rename their facilities with naming rights? This kind of excessive waste is why the MBTA is in such a shameful position.
It's hard to tell us that, with all of the brain resources in this city, you need to spend ANY money on consultants. Of any sort. College students need field experience and will work mostly for free.
What a joke.
Let's Cut To The Chase
I said a long time ago that we could all retire comfortably if we sold just one naming right. That would be the right to the name of the state itself.
MasterCardAchusetts.
Proof of both my genius and stupidity, all in one place!

SAVIN HILLs Brothers Coffee
Barbie and KENDALL
(Yeah, I know it's not pronounced that way, but Mattel probably doesn't.)
Sam Adams Latitude 48 India Pale ALEWIFE
(Bonus! Local Business!)
LECHMERE
(Oh, wait. There was already a store there named that and they went the way of the dodo. Let's not mention that to prospective buyers.)
I'm pretty sure we can think of more...

HIstory?
Because selling the name rights to the Boston Garden worked out so well for everyone.
What the new map could look like
Here, from the last time the T proposed something like this, all of six months ago (thank goodness the kidlet has a better memory than me).
Excellent!
See Above.
Who came up with it, Adam?
(The names for the lines themselves are the best!)

Collaboration is a wonderful thing
I came up with a couple of the names, but a lot came from the discussion the last time the T proposed this (way, way, way back in January).
And Now I See...
... that a couple of my oh-so-clever names above were already thought of by someone else six months ago. My unintentionally plagiaristic apologies.

They requested proposals 6
They requested proposals 6 months ago, and the proposals are due this week.
Got to change the last stop on the Blue line
From Wonder Bread to NECCO Wafers.

Changing Harvard Station to University of Phoenix Station? Brilliant
corp identity
Makes me think of the Adopt-A-Highway program, but somehow stranger
New station names = new maps, signage.
New station names = new maps, signage.
I don't see how it could ever be economical. Guidebooks will also be wrong. While it would be kind of funny (I love Museum of *Very Fine* Arts), it would be a massive headache and make the system more confusing than it already appears to be to tourists.
(note: I'm not saying the system is confusing at all - it's simple as can be, tourists are just dumb)
This will go over well.
Just like the last time the T tried it. Remember Citizens/State? Yeaaaah.
