Burning pickup

A roving UHub photographer was in the right place at the right time to capture a BTD Denver boot pickup going up in flames off Brigham Circle yesterday.

Come on, this picture was taken within seconds of arrival. You must think, "Is that Hindenburg ever going to hit the ground? They'll get out of that one without a scratch" every time you look at the cover of a Led Zeppelin II album.

From the picture it looks like they just got on scene, one of the guys on Ladder 26 (the truck on the left that you cant really see) grabbed a hook off the truck, and one of the guys on Engine 37 (pretty sure the guy sitting behind the driver gets this fire) has the hose and is waiting for the driver to get the pump running to put water into the hose.

For a car fire they are only going to run one hose and they wont tap into a hydrant unless they really need to (run out of water in their tank). Since it only takes one guy to operate that hose, until the flames are out, they really do have to stand there and wait. They don't rush into these things because that is how people get unnecessarily hurt.

didn't use this as their "E"xcuse of the day to suspend Heath Street service beyond Brigham Circle.

And yes, I know the fire didn't occur on Huntington Avenue. However, it would be just as plausible a reason as the T has given for most of their impromptu E line service "adjustments" lately (tomorrow - man spits on tracks, T advises passengers to use the 39 bus instead).

I can't think of any reason why a truck full of parking boots would mysteriously catch fire.
