They closed almost two months ago

September 13 was the last day of operations. Goes to show how little impact the place had that it took so long for anybody to notice.
This was a good spot.

But went downhill pretty quick. Two years ago this place wasn't bad. I went in a few months ago and it looked like a dirty drunk/dive bar.

Yeah, it was getting to be a bit skanky. The police wagons seemed to hang out in the area every weekend...
I think it depended a great deal on the night

My impression of the bar side was generally that it was the depressing, neighborhood alcoholics only type of joint. But the nights when they had planned events were quite different, and you'd get a pretty interesting and energetic crowd. For me the real kiss of death was the menu. It never achieved anything beyond greasy bar food, but more than half the rent was tied up in a dining room separated from the bar. That could have been a good restaurant location if they'd done a bit more. Something like the Corib Pub, Dogwood, or Doyle's could have done good business in this space.
Auctioned off

There was an ad in the legal notices a couple of weeks ago for a bankruptcy auction of fixtures, etc. The auction should already have happened by now.
it was sold NOT auctioned

Long live the Happy Hour

This place was always kind of dead to me once they changed over from the Happy Hour to Robyn's. Be careful of what you say about the 'neighborhood alcoholics' - you never know who is reading UH! I found the folks there to be very welcoming and spent many an hour playing darts, pinball, etc. The changeover to a mediocre restaurant was the issue for me.
See you all at BK's? Just kiddin'.

First Belgrade Liquors, now this. I guess I'll have to put on clean clothes now when I want alcohol.

People in the area knew this almost 2 months ago when it closed and we knew it was going to happen as well...just because you just noticed doesn't mean it didn't have an impact on others...
With all due respect....

You could have reported the closing here yourself (or given Adam a tip on the topic).

I gave the place a couple of chances because it's really close to my house. I think we're better off with an experienced, well managed restaurant group, it'll take a lot of money and know-how to turn that site around. Wasn't it something else between Robyns and the Happy Hour, I remember it being something like "The Score Zone". I'm frankly surprised they hung on as long as they did, the times I was in there you could count the patrons on one hand and nobody ever sat in the dining room. I wish the new owners well and hope they get moving soon, Rosi needs a decent place to meet friends for a drink.
It was the Game Day Pub

It was the Game Day Pub before Robyn's.
Place was great for awhile, but when Kelleher's re-opened there was no reason to go all the way into the square. Most of the patrons, and bartenders for that matter, in Robyn's heyday made the switch.
That location's #1 problem is lack of parking. If the new owners worked out a deal AutoZone to let patrons park there nights and weekends that spot has tremendous potential.
Munincipal lot, a few buildings away

I think the AutoZone idea isn't bad, but really, there is plenty of parking quite close to that location, in the lot behind the health center, not to mention easy enough street parking. There are also 10 bus lines that pass within 50 feet, which isn't a bad idea when it comes to spending a few hours drinking.
That said, it certainly is at a disadvantage compared to Brannely's or the Pleasant Cafe when it comes to parking.

Almost never get over to this part of Roslindale (or is it West Roxbury). What does it have over, say, Branelly's?
Kelleher's

It is a lot cleaner, brighter, and family oriented than Branelly's. But it doesn't have that old school pub feel that Branelly's has. I like them both by the way.
Somehow I've never noticed Kelleher's

I'll have to check it out, though. Between comments here and a bit of Googling, I'm getting the idea it's pretty cool.
