They are much needed, I'll give you that. But my stupefaction comes from its imminent date with the wrecking ball.

So I assume you think they should just shut it down, and route all the Arborway traffic across South and Washington streets. I recommend you not say so in front of any of the long-suffering bus riders who already have to deal with the existing traffic.

But doing that might actually encourage a real subway extension to this dense transit corridor instead of pretending buses are adequate.

I am one of those bus riders.... are you? Whatever the solution is, replace or or not, for me it's just throwing away money to repave something that is due to be destroyed a few months later.
One more vote for closing it now

I use all transit modes in this area, we'll survive any closure pending an ultimate solution. The bus problem, as already noted isn't an indication of poor roadways. it's an indication that the area needs rapid transit. We suffer bus congestion because the Orange Line ends at Forest Hills, when it should actually branch and provide service to Hyde Park, Roslindale, and West Roxbury. Get rid of the buses, and the traffic problem is gone.

You are perfectly welcome to hold your breath for rapid transit to West Roxbury. I doubt, however, that many will volunteer to do so with you.
Don't see what is so

Don't see what is so surprising. The road needs some immediate patching for the winter and demolition is far from imminent.
The last schedule I saw called for demolition in the third quarter of 2013. That schedule also called for an alternative to be selected by the end of 2011 and that isn't happening, so I think it is safe to say that demolition is a good two years out.

A grown-up visiting UHub - how refreshing! Now don't do it too often. You'll make the denizens cry.

I do like the view of the city you get when you drive over that bridge.

it makes for going from the Arborway to Morton Street. It's moments--no lights, no hassle. One place I drive that's pleasant and easy.
