They could give Segway tours of the JP Whole Foods

Zipping along the aisles.

The gentrification is now complete.

I'm part of the gentrification "problem" in JP and I wouldn't be caught dead on one of these things.

This fellow has been living in JP as long as I can remember and is probably more mobile with the help of that machine than he's been in decades. And regarding gentrification, why are some folks so eager to point out something that happened in JP at least 15 years ago and long before Segue and iPhone were part of our vernacular?

Let's not rush to judgement here.. my neighbor regularly rides a Segway as an alternative to his wheelchair. Save your scorn for the tourists downtown. Plus, we won't be fully gentrified until we get an Apple Store.

There are Apple stores in Dedham and Braintree. Don't worry about Apple - JP is gentrified as much as its going to get.

I was at Whole Foods this evening and saw this gentleman. He was clearly handicapped and could not walk on his own without the use of motorized transport (evidenced by the way his hips are postured in the image). Yes, he chose a Segway, which is easy to socially ridicule, but poor form for jumping to conclusions based on a quick iPhone shot and a link to JP gentrification.

(snark)Then he would be in his proper place to be looked down upon.

Full independence for mobility limited persons is a job killer - you should have to ask permission to get around and require workers to help you reach stuff! (/snark)

I've seen this guy around town for at least three years (and there are other Segway riders who have been here much longer, in Hyde Square no less). He was in JP Licks last week and I was truly amazed at the dexterity he had in moving that thing silently and how he was able to stand still as necessary while navigating through the tables packed with oblivious hipsters and screaming kids in double wide strollers. but they bug me like electric cars do. They make no sound so they can freak out a pedestrian pretty easily; you just can't hear them coming.

JP's gentrification was complete 10 years ago.

Recently a man on a Segway nearly collided with me as I exited a 39 bus on South Street. He rode so close to the edge of the sidewalk that he was a few inches from me as I stepped off the bus. The sidewalk was wide and so there was not any need for him to hug the curb. No apology or attempt to stop. He just kept on trucking as though the sidewalk was his personal track.

Increasing mobility for people whose need help getting around of is good. Running into people who are walking is bad.
