Dominic Luberto must be stopped
Can't somebody do something before the guy who owns the Arborway Castle does some real damage?
In case you missed it, the Globe reported today that NStar has had to put in a new electrical main to support those 250,000 lights he has on between 4:30 and 1 a.m. - although it says it's not sure all those lights are what's causing brownouts in the neighborhood. Luberto told the paper he plans on putting up 500,000 lights next year (will NStar be giving him his own electric plant?), he wants to write a book about his lights and, best of all:
HE WANTS TO SHOOT FIREWORKS FROM HIS FRONT LAWN EVERY DAY DURING THE SEASON.
On the Jamaicaway.
And wouldn't that be lovely? You're driving home from dinner downtown and all of a sudden a surface-to-air missile (because you know Luberto won't be satisfied with some sparklers) comes shooting through your window, exits out the rear and then blows up a fuel-oil truck on the other side of the road in a blinding fireball that sends all the gawkers who've come to see the show into a frenzy of applause, and isn't it a pity when some of them, blinded by the light, stumble onto the Jamaicaway only to get run over by some guy from Rozzie in an SUV?
If Tom Menino can crush the last vestiges of life out of the harmless Enchanted Village, the least he can do is keep this increasingly out of control Christmas extremist from blowing up half the neighborhood.
Report from the scene - Steve and Carol give us a video tour of the lights.

Bunch of Grinch's
Leave the guy alone for crying out loud. Live your own life and leave the rest of us alone.
I was over there last night
I think that the house is great. I do think it's unfortunate that this house is located on an extremely busy street and someone's gonna get hurt when they stop or slow down to see the display, but I see how happy everyone is after they see the lights.
A Little Out of Control
I love lights. I think everyone should decorate like crazy. However, this guy seems to be getting a bit full of himself, what with the interviews, the news cameras and the idea of turning it into a book. It's not about decorating any more. I think the fireworks thing was the icing on the cake. What a great way to say "F-You" to your neighbors. There's doing something because you love it, and doing something because you love the attention it gets you. He crossed that threshhold.

New Invention: Drapes
If you are wealthy enough to own property in that location and a swanky SUV I would imagine you could pony up a few bucks for decent window treatments. Nothing gets me more in the Christmas spirit than watching people get worked up over nothing.
Take a pill folks, they'll come down sometime in March. * giggle *
What a waste!
More than just the $2000/month of electricity (and the greenhouse gases that come from generating that extra electricity), I was appalled by the fact that he's going to throw away all of those lights and start over next year.
Last time I checked, the holidays were supposed to be about humility, humanity and charity, not arrogance, pollution and waste.
While he may not get 'national recognition' for it, he could give the thousands of dollars that he spends on his ostentatious display to a needy family or two. Oh - right. That would be selfless.
how many people could 2000$
how many people could 2000$ a month reach if handed out then ask yourself how many people 2000$ a month could reach when put out in this way with the lights.. how many of you drove around during christmas time to look at the lights and dont just say it was for your kids you drove around yourself to look at them and what was that initial feeling you got when you see the lights. take that and think about it. also how much greenhouse gas is made from and entire city from the powerplants this house is just a small tiny crumb of the cake compared to the overall power usage by a city.. i dont hear about the people in vegas all dieing from greenhouse gas poisoning haha. you people are all nuts why not just drive by take your kids and look at this house and enjoy it.. by the way i cant wait to read this book when it comes out.. thanks Saint Nick
Let's see...$2K worth of
Let's see...$2K worth of food or $2K worth of shiny.
I'm sure the kids who are going to bed hungry this Christmas will feel ever so much better knowing there's a massive light display out there somewhere.
Sure, Dominic has the right to decorate his home as he pleases, but we, as fellow humans, have the right to question the best use of the money spent, don't we?
Lets Think

What has happened to society?
Live and let live you creep. The damn thing is on his house, not yours. If you don't like looking at it...don't look at it. Period. You're like those morons complaining about what's on TV...who apparently don't know that the channels can be changed.
Stop being such a dick. Of all the things to be concerned about in this world...this is a sorry excuse. Try world hunger, or big oil, or the Bush administration.
Douchebag.
what?
Might not be his choice, if it's shining into his window at night when he wants to sleep.
Right On...
Right on, right on!
It's always SO AWESOME to
It's always SO AWESOME to come to a website and make one's first post calling the site owner names. Really in the Christmas spirit, innit?
Gotta wonder about PJ
What kind of person goes around the internets and scolds other people on other people's blogs about their lack of focus on what they deem to be truly important?
Shouldn't PJ have his/her own blog where he/she rants about what is truly important to PJ? Or be out in the world working for those truly important things?
Oh, so much easier to go on somebody else's site and complain that they don't do exactly as you would like them. I've seen a term for that - PRIORITY TROLL. Priority trolls complain that others don't have their priorities straight. One can easily deduce that priority trolls can't get theirs straight or they wouldn't be trolling, but that's just a distraction from what is really important.
(cues up Beck song ...).
Priority trolls!
Glad someone sees the irony. They claim to be too busy and important to bother with, well, most stuff, but then they decide that since someone has spent 5 minutes making a blog post or one day attending an event, that person clearly must not have a life/family/job/clue.
A closely related cousin to the Priority Troll is the Progress Troll. You know, the one who goes around complaining about editorials and activism with the tired old, "jeez, how about if you stop your complaining about the underfunded program your kid's in and just be grateful we're not still lobotomizing them" and "stop complaining that media coverage of your community was biased and used archaic terminology and just being grateful that they're recognizing you at all instead of still firebombing your houses."
(Hmm, maybe we need to submit these for the next version of Flame Warriors...)
PEOPLE ARE SO RIDICULOUS
PEOPLE ARE REALLY RIDICULOUS. I KNOW DOMINIC PERSONALLY AND HE HAS NEVER TALKED ABOUT FIREWORKS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. PEOPLE HAVE ALOT OF TIME ON THEIR HANDS TO SIT HERE AND MAKE BLOGS AND LIES AND STORIES ABOUT FIREWORKS AND TURNING PONDS GREEN LOL =) YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY, BUT I GUESS ANY PUBLICITY IS GOOD PUBLICITY. YOU PEOPLE TRY TO TALK DOWN ON HIM NOT REALIZING YOUR ONLY MAKING HIM FAMOUS, AND TRUST ME, HE LOVES EVERY BIT OF THE ATTENTION =)
MERRY XMAS TO THOSE WHO APPRECIATE THE HOLIDAYS =)
You know Jews don't like
You know Jews don't like christmas.
They are racists.
Clearly, I'm missing
Clearly, I'm missing something here...how exactly are Jews who don't like Christmas racist? Last I checked, Christianity wasn't a race.
And if you really believe that, why are you posting under a handle derived from Jewish folklore?
Um, it's the Globe who
Um, it's the Globe who mentioned the fireworks originally; you might want to take that particular criticism up with them instead of with the re-reporter.
Hmmmmm...
I think he puts on his big light display a little too soon. Having them on during the afternoon/evening rush-hour, especially on such a busy, dangerous narrow bottlenecked street like that is sort of playing Russian Roulette, imo. Maybe, if the guy wants to indulge, he should wait until the afternoon-evening rush-hour is over with and that there aren't so many cars on the road on their way home from work or whatevever. 4:30 in the afternoon is a tad or so too early for turning those lights on, imo.
