Late this morning, a guy was sailing this remote-controlled boat in the Christian Science Center. Little kids who got near the water would be greeted with a vist from the boat - although if they tried to grab it, he'd make it beat a hasty retreat.

Does it actually sail or is there a hidden motor in there?
Both, I think

Definitely opened the throttle when a kid tried to grab the sailboat, but other times it seemed to be catching a breeze.

I actually have made 2 of these, although neither of them have been finished. They are radio controlled, with servos (electric arms I guess) to winch in or out on lines that control the sails. Usually there is an additional servo to control the rudder as well.
this site has a decent rundown of all the classes of model yachts

this class in particular, the footy, is probably the easiest class to build and get into (unless of course you buy a pre-made boat, but whats the fun in that?)

This church is an excellent neighbor. I have mixed feelings about the toy boating I sometimes see done here. Here is why (picture)

The church is a tax dodging cult. But regardless of that how does using a toy boat in the water do anything to the reflection that the poor design of the plaza and buildings also do (high wind speeds). That picture you linked is a pretty rare, windless occasion.
Incidentally a paper on change plans for the plaza is available at:

Thinking prayer heals in place of medical treatment is pretty whacky too. It could be argued that this is less whacky then Xenu. But it's still out there.
Not that any religion [mainstream or otherwise] should be spared from ridicule or taxes.
