Death toll rises to three

Police Commissioner Ed Davis just announced. He said the exact number of injured is still being tallied, added "there is no suspect at Brigham and Women's Hospital."

Meanwhile, the FBI has taken control of the investigation because it might be a terrorist attack.

Davis added T riders can expect extra bag and backpack checks in coming days.

Shrapnel

Walls said the shrapnel appeared to be “street stuff” — shattered soda cans or pieces of other items that may have already been on the city street before the blast.

Goodness knows there would have been more than enough "street stuff" - by that time of the afternoon on the day of the Marathon, the sidewalks on Boylston are covered with rubbish. Even with a major city effort to clean up litter after the event, the area remains a mess for days afterwards every year.

Another MGH surgeon has said he's removed nails from people. Another hospital is reporting buckshot / metal bb's. guess there's still a lot of conflicting info out there, but there were no ball bearings and CNN really needs to confirm these thing.

Speculating isn't reporting. being first and wrong, is wrong.

Let's define terrorism

I think it's important to note: This *is* a terrorist attack. Anyone who commits an act of terror - such as terrorizing a crowd with bombs - is a terrorist. the phrase terrorist attack is not reserved only for organized crime groups or Islamic extremists - it's just been used that way since 9/11. Whoever is behind this awful act is a terrorist, no matter their skin color, religion, or country of origin.
