Here's a new UHub rule: If you keep posting a link to the same conspiracy-nut article about the Marathon to Marathon-related posts here, even after you're asked not to, I will block your account.

Now, what about making judgement calls (filtering) of the people just trolling, or possibly even getting a system that requires real names?
Like I said, I think if asked plenty of us regulars would throw in to fund the upgrade.

I don't think real names are important -- some people prefer to use a handle and like to discuss topics their employees or neighbors might not agree with. But I take issue with people who like to post one line responses that are not related to the discussion and only want to offend or annoy other readers and not add to the discussion.
By in large the comments on UH are very good and the whole site is great. It's annoying when the trolls come out but if that's the price for great journalism and good discussion, so be it.

...last week and you can too!!!
Those spammers fry my nose more than most trolls. Trolls can be annoying, but there doesn't seem to be much of that here. Ignore it. At worst, I don't have to click on a link.
My two cents is that the balance here is pretty good. I can live with it.
Can you also do this

with the couple of people who use any mention of a transgender person to spew transphobia? It adds absolutely nothing to the discussion, it's really hurtful, and we should really be a lot more civilized than that.
Thanks!

Those nutters drive me crazy. They don't waste a moment for reflection or empathy and immediately engage in sweaty delusional Mary Sue fantasies.
Our Government does plenty of really awful stuff and works hard to keep it secret. But instead of educating themselves with the facts of the real conspiracies - the real problems; they engage in franzied pants-on-head crazy speculation that isn't even close to be being based on reality. If it's not clear I have no patience for their kind when there is real suffering and real problems to be tackled.
It is truly sickening and thanks for shutting them up so we can heal and move forward.
It's a very easy way to go through life

Seriously, living such a paranoid life is so incredibly simple. There isn't even a government explanation yet, but it's already a lie and a conspiracy! When everything in life is a government-driven false flag operation to distract us from the alliance of Lizard People, Zionists, and Vince Foster's zombie, then everything else follows suit. There's no need to confront difficult questions, no need to ever have the foundations of their beliefs shaken. Everything circularly reaffirms everything else.
They fancy themselves the protagonists of an Orwell novel. Instead they've made themselves into players in some bizarre role-playing game that exists in a mirrored reality that they're too scared to leave.
I got booted from a conspiracy website

Those sites are a guilty pleasure of mine but I don't believe a word of it. I got banned from a site on Monday for arguing that this wasn't a BPD bomb squad drill gone awry. They're a bunch of nutters who think they're smarter than everyone else because they "get it" and the rest of us are dumb sheeple.

because I have an account but I forgot the password and I no longer own the e-mail account under which it was registered so I can't recover the password, and I asked Adam in person once to reset it for me, and then forgot what he told me to do, and asking for help again would be admitting what a doofus I am, which is something I'm not yet emotionally prepared to do.
But I flatter myself into thinking that my posts are always reasonable (at least I don't seem to draw a lot of complaints); If registration becomes required then I'd go register an account; I don't think it's a big deal one way or the other.
The Problem

While you seem like a nice reasonable guy, there are shitloads of people posting under the same handle. Sure, most of us can read with comprehension, so we'll not be likely to jump on folks who keep the arguments cogent, but it makes it so tremendously much easier for Adam (as "boss") and us (as, depending upon the situation, sometimes short attention span readers) to not waste time figuring out who the idiots or who the nice guys/gals are among the various anons.
(If there are nonsensical sentences in the above, I plead sleep deprivation.)
