Yes, that is a Boston parking ticket on the windshield of one of the trucks that has turned the Charles Street side of the Common into a National Guard encampment. Richard Lynds couldn't believe it, either.
UPDATE: See comment below: The city didn't ticket the truck.

The BTD has no fear. I would love to know how that parking infraction was coded.

I'd like to think common sense would dictate differently in this situation. I notice that they didn't ticket the several police vehicles parked on the Greenway and in front of the Rowes Wharf building.
They had to know this ticket would never get paid and it's only going to create more work for both the national guard and also BTD.

I got ticketed and towed on Clarendon St @ Beacon yesterday morning for STREET SWEEPING.. was I wrong to think with half of Back Bay still on lock down they wouldn't go ahead with street sweeping?!
Clarendon Street is still closed at Newbury to St James... They swept two blocks and ticketed and towed nearly 2 dozen cars.
THIS IS SOME BULLSHIT

Did Lynds check for a bag of M & Ms on the dashboard?
Orange Ticket + Military Vehicle = Funny

Maybe you are right but who knows? I actually didn't check to see if there were M&M's, or if the ticket was real, or if BTD properly cited the vehicle. I simply snapped the photo amid a surreal scene that has unfolded from the Common to Copley Square. As someone who has lived, worked, and attended school in Boston, I can appreciate the "discipline" of BTD's enforcement efforts. I am not a journalist and wasn't trying to suggest anything about the photo other than it was worth a laugh and quite symbolic of a much needed "return to normalcy." I think after the past week, we could all use that.
Joke totally intended

First off, is this real?
If so, and just out of curiosity, aren't the National Guard vehicles generally exempt from bearing registration plates (hell, even U.S. Postal Service vehicles do not bear registration plates)? If so, shouldn't that have probably tipped of the meter maid that a ticket was probably not warranted?
Has anyone actually gotten a look at the ticket? I would love to know what s/he put in the Reg. no. field on the ticket. Might it have been the vehicle serial number?
My guess:
By Neal

No. Military vehicles don't have civil registrations, so there's probably no way to link the vehicle to any violation (not to mention, they likely have permission to be there), besides, government vehicles are exempt from most parking regulations in most situations. It's probably a tongue-in-cheek joke by a National Guardsman, BTD employee, police officer or passer by.
My thought too

The Meter maid who is a city employee (Taxpayer funded) is ticketing a federal vehicle/employee/agency (Also Taxpayer funded)who is going to have to clear this up with an individual at city hall (Another taxpayer funded employee) who will then mail out the decision via USPS (MORE TAXPAYER FUNDED EMPLOYEES/Agencies).

to pay for things that they are forced to do by law for free, such as congressional mail and mailing absentee ballots. Not exactly the worst thing in the world.
You could easily cut that, and allow them to operate properly and they'd be fine. It's not keeping them afloat when they're losing 10 million a day because of congressional melding in how they fund their retirement account.
someone wants that nest egg. gotta get rid of USPS first.

That's my unit, that's one of my trucks. WAAF has a radio host who is very good friends with us. She brought us coffee at 2am on her free time and she put that on our truck as a joke with a funny note inside. It looks real from a distance but on it is just an WAAF sticker. After that we of course used it to mess with each other all day because guys need to break the tension after a week like this.
