Pittsburgh bar to boycott Sam Adams until Penguins lose series

CBS Sports reports.

If only there were a Pittsburgh beer anybody in Boston drinks that we could counter-boycott. Prairie Rose Clayton suggests boycotting Iron City, but Matt O'Connor is not sure Iron City really qualifies as beer.

let 'em have sam adams! owner was raised in ny and most of their brewing is done in pittsburg anyway! they don't even make their beer in boston... besides the stuff used for taste tests... harpoon all the way!!!

Man, the pickings are pretty slim. You've pretty much gotta go to a specialty beer place to find anything from a local Pittsburgh brewery. I laughed out loud at the wikipedia page for Penn Brewery: "In 2012, Pittsburgh Magazine named it one of the breweries in Pittsburgh."

I guess people could boycott Rolling Rock, but (a) the odds are about 50/50 that you'll just get another AB InBev beer instead and (b) no one really drinks much Rolling Rock, anyway.

Has a Penn Brewery sign prominently on the front. I don't recall if they actually serve any offerings from there, though.

I wonder if the people at this bar realize that roughly 95% of Sam Adams is brewed in Pennsylvania, with only small and test batches being brewed in Boston?

It's just a harmless way of signifying team pride. Actually pretty civilized compared to alternatives like body paint or brawling. After the playoffs I'm sure they'll go back to Sams, if that was their previous suds o' choice.

Fwiw, they also probably don't realize that much of the Yuengling they're drinking instead is now made in Florida.

All I want is some draft Yuengling in New England, which is in my view the best (otherwise) national beer per dollar.

That, and for them to stop brewing Sams Summer entirely, because it's terrible. Praise jebus Noble Pils is now year round, Boston Lager is awesome and the rest of the lineup is generally good.
