WBZ announces it's giving Jen Brien the mike between midnight and 5 a.m.
"The Jen Brien Show" will be a mix of pop culture, current events, politics, and the comings and goings of people in New England. Brien replaces Steve LeVeille who retired last year.

Well, now we have a woman who was too dumb for WRKO doing the overnights. She should have a great time bringing her Tammy Bruce lite routine to people who just want to do trivia and talk to someone who remembers who Fred Allen was.
People don't want someone
People don't want someone smarter than they are on the radio these days. It makes them feel threatened and intimidated like it does when they are face-to-face. The best radio hosts are charismatic people who either make you think that they agree with everything you agree with or offer no strong opinions but gregariously plod along through the hours.
To be fair I have heard he make statements of opinion on the overnight hours based on facts that are simply not true and can be googled right quick. So I think you and I are in the same boat about this new appointment.
What about Bradley Jay ????
Bradley Jay? Seriously?
Lat time I saw Bradley Jay he was running around town dressing like Stevie Ray Vaughn. Ever since he was kicked off of rock radio, he's been trying to make it in talk, not really getting that far because he's basically an idiot. He clearly misses the days of guest lists and free promo LP's and CD's to sell at Nuggets.
The most successful talk show hosts are the ones who get their audience to think that they're something they're not. Hannity convinces people that he's still that working class stiff who was a bartender and carpenter, only his world is chauffeured cars and private planes paid for with charity money. Limbaugh's listeners have no problem listening to him talk about his golf trips on his G4 while they struggle to put food on their table, because he throws out a free Ipad every now and then. They forget the fact that for years, while he was influencing the impressionable with his warped opinions he was whacked out of his mind on Oxyxontin!
And locally we have Howie Carr, who we just discovered has no problem shelling out 75k in royalties to his new business partner, unrepentant murderer John Martorano. Carr is such a fucking snake, he would never have told anyone about his unholy alliance with this murderer until Martorano outed him in open court, avoiding a perjury charge. So while Howie has been railing for years against do nothing politicians, he couldn't wait to get into bed with an admitted psychopath so he could sell a few more of his shitty books.
I never thought I'd say this in a million years (due to a couple of run-ins I had with him) but some days I actually miss David Brudnoy.
Howie Carr - John Martorano deal
Who's we? Carr was very open about the deal last year on Emily Rooney's Greater Boston show. Just this week, Rooney, long a critic of Carr and his apparently sealed divorce records, praised Carr's openness when replaying the old tape of her interview with Carr in which he talks about the deal with Martorano. Of course there was a deal, why else would Martorano talk? I agree on the Bradley Jay comments though. Funny.
I stand corrected
I did not know about the Rooney interview.That's a moot point, though, how can this man look himself in the mirror in the morning knowing that he's in financial league with a murderer?
I mean, listening to him knocking the poor, Latinos, Muslims, people who never did anything to him, yet he has no problem putting food on the table of a lowlife murderer? I always considered Carr just a useless idiot who was starry eyed by guys I always avoided my entire life, but now he's crossed the line. He thinks he's in the second coming of "Goodfellas" and he's the kid across the street from the cabstand. Only he grew up in Maine and went to Deerfield Academy. Fuck him.

And for Brudnoy, I also had a 'run-in' with the guy. A difficult, to put it politely, man. But he knew his shit and he was basically remarkably fair minded. I also wrote him a snail mail letter once about some topic. I had never before actually tried to contact a 'personality' like him. He actually responded after about 3 weeks. Hand written, and very personal in nature. But I could not imagine how difficult it was for people like producers to have worked under him.
Bradley and Morgan come
Bradley and Morgan come running in to cover for sick calls, catastrophic weather and events, major holidays.
Both have expressed an interest in getting more hours.

I don't see how jettisoning the weekend lineup in order to run paid programming equates to any of the former hosts being "too dumb for WRKO".

Well I'm depressed about this
Loved Steve Leveille. Love Morgan White Jr and his trivia. Bradley Jay was okay. But Jen Brien is AWFUL. I cannot listen to her. Her show is awful. She has tons of conspiracy loons on. If I wanted that, I'd just listen to Coast to Coast w/ George Noory. Ugh. What a shame.

You're in the minority
Sorry to tell you but you are in the minority - she is gawd awful and listeners have been letting the station know. If you like her, you clearly know nothing about WBZ late night radio. She was the wrong choice and I doubt she will remain permanent at 5 (painful) nights a week. Listeners are dropping like flies.
Jen - WBZ
Simply said - She STINKS !
Her politics involve being against the government, Obama and anyone in government as tho they're poison - yet she keeps praising herself stating she was in the service and served her country. Current events - involve her looking out her window, watching and reporting on her neighbors and all that they do. Comings and goings - involve her talking to anyone driving a truck in the middle of the night and her asking what they're hauling.
How can she replace Steve Leveille? How does she rate over Bradley and Morgan? One hour is hard enough to tolerate. FIVE hours FIVE times a week - a bit much of nothing! I will turn the station as I did when Steve got fired. I will return to WBZ when Jen gets fired.
Jen Brien WBZ
I agree. She is crude. Always talking about her pesonal life (too much info) It is very hard to listen to her. I feel sorry for her at times because she is so unaware of the real word around her,
Steve used to spend hours watching news shows and reading papers in prepartion for his show. I don't think she does any of that.
She comes off as an immature ,naive individual. Makes comments that are totally inappropriate for radio. Also, never gives her producer credit. All other talk show hosts introduce their producer.
Dean Johnson was more interesting and kept up with current events and would have a guest to discuss
an event if he felt it important enough.
I am sure Jen is a very nice person, but does not have the maturity for this job. She has to grow up and start doing research from TV news,newspapers etc for her show. To bring intelligent converstion to the
table.

Puh-leeze. Jen Brien is the worst thing - the lowest point on Boston talk radio - probably ever. I am left of center but it's not her politics that upsets me (I could listen to and appreciate the late David Brudnoy). She is a total idiot, completely unsuited to such a high profile media gig. I defy anyone to listen to her WBZ show for 30 minutes and then disagree with me. And if you do, you are an idiot.
Jen Brien Fired From WBZ 9/23/2013
After the past 3 months of hearing the rant of Jen Brien that is the best news I have heard that WBZ fired her from her late night radio host job from 12 mid to 5 a.m. 5 nights a week she was on. She always talked about herself and rant all the time about the hard drive to work and how much it cost. She spend weeks about a friend of a few years who died as if it was her mother and she went on and on about her. I heard her saying thank you to callers for sending her sympathy cards? This woman is on the air talking about sleeping in her car because she did not want to drive home from work because she did not have a key to get into her girlfriends apartment on her birthday. Weird. She always talked about her girl friends and never talked about any men and she is 44 years old? If she is a lesbian that is fine but she always talked about wanting to find the right person and she worked in P'town when she was a teenager. Just an odd mix of Far Right Republican Tea Bagger Ranting and always putting President Obama down and she is to have served in the Air Force and sure never showed the President any respect. She was always ranting about her mother who was a democrat and her brother who was a Republican and how much money he spent to get elected. At the same time she was always talking she was poor and lost her cell phone and for weeks did not have a phone. Who ever heard of a National Radio Station as WBZ is as it goes out all over the country at night to not have a cell phone? She never talked about any real News Events of substance and it was always about her pity party for 5 hours of being on the radio. She always sounded like she needed help and that sound she made a 'grunting sound' when a caller would finally call after they said something? Weird. I remember she cut off a lot of people that did not sound like they wanted to talk about her own problems and no one at WBZ ever did that to callers. I do not know where they found her but she needs to go to broadcasting school and learn how to be on the radio. Sure hope they put Bradley and Morgan on full time as they are great and Jordan is wonderful on the weekends. WBZ is to good a station to have Jen Brien ever on the air again. Thank Goodness they fired her and no more of that rant of all about her for 5 hours 5 nights a week. Been listening to WBZ since the early 1960's and see a lot of changes but never heard the likes of Jen Brien and never want to again.
Morgan White is doing a
Morgan White is doing a superb job taking over. He has handled Ms Brien's LOA very nicely. No one wants to see her fall in a heap over her poor job performance or to read of her leaving before any official announcement. You never know, perhaps she will take the corrective criticisms she has received to heart and make changes. We have seen the chaotic, unconnected and unprepared Jen but we have also seen that WBZ has risen to the occasion and read the comments. Morgan has spent hours on the phone with his colleagues doing preparation while asking many thoughtful folks to come to his aid in his time of need! Preparation is fundamental to everyones success and Morgan is showing that he is doing the work it takes to put on an entertaining overnight broadcast. Could he be, to use Jen's term, "auditioning" for the position. We really don't know. But if it is...let me leave a message for Morgan.
Morgan I hope you get the gig. If you think it could interfere with your other responsibilities think about a pow wow with Dan, et al and work out something with Bradley Jay. He's a funny and thoughtful person with a likable personality. He is well spoken and informed and a joy to listen to. He's a very honest adn forthright person. I personally would like to see you both split the job. I am confident that should changes be in the works, you could all work it out so that no one is over burdened doing the overnight gig.

Do Not put Bradley Jay in there cause he is the worst overnite person I ever heard, Morgan White JR is the best replacement for Jen Brien.If you put Bradley Jay in i'll never listen to WBZ again and i'll tell everyone at Herb Chambers not to listen to the show
