Spitzer...

"Listen, I'm a fucking steamroller and I'll roll over you and anybody else."
...Even if I have to bring them in across state lines.
Deval et al actually got lucky here

His aide Carl Stanley McGee is in court
today in Florida answering those unfortunate
steamroom charges. So the Spitzer thing
dominating the talk shows and news
actually is a blessing for Deval and company.
Oh, don't worry about that ...

Too bad Spitzie's been

Too bad Spitzie's been connected with a call girl ring instead of a call boy ring... As a Democrat he'd be assured reelection for life.
Closets for Republicans

Call-boi rings? Those would be the natural vendors for all those Senator Widestance and Congressman Textmessage Republicans who vote against human rights for outwardly gay persons while cruising restrooms in self-loathing fits of "I'm not really gay I'm not really gay I'm not really gay ...".
Spitzer makes Clinton seem like a demure and self-effacing martyr, so I'm really not surprised that his entitlement and arrogance tripped him up here.
Indeed.

Indeed.
Maybe Barney's friend or Stanley Steamer could hook 'em up.
Long past time to decriminalize victimless crimes

This looks bad for Spitzer, but did his actions actually hurt anyone other than his own family? And if not, why should they be crimes?

Unfortunately for Spitzer, his answer when he was attorney general was "Book 'em." From the NY Times:
"Though his signature issue was pursuing Wall Street misdeeds, as attorney general Mr. Spitzer also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.
"In one such case in 2004, Mr. Spitzer spoke with revulsion and anger after announcing the arrest of 16 people for operating a high-end prostitution ring out of Staten Island.
"'This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure,' Mr. Spitzer said at the time. 'It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring.'"

I think it's ridiculous that ordering state troopers to follow your political enemies just gets a slap on the wrist, but acting like a bastard to your wife means everyone demands your resignation.
The fact that Spitzer prosecuted prostitution rings in the past is irrelevant and doesn't make him hypocritical, because as the AG, it's his job to carry out the law, however stupid. Janet Reno is anti-capital punishment, but even she sought the death penalty in cases because that was her job.
Grow the fuck up, America.

Was Eliot Spitzer an egomaniacal bully?

Brought down by his own hubris?
As much as I'm willing to see Sheer Evil coming out of Washington, I haven't seen any contradictions yet of the story that the whole thing started when a bank notified the feds of suspicious money activity involving his account. If that's the way it all started, then it's just another case of some guy thinking he's above the law he once enforced. A guy who, almost immediately upon winning office, let his aides run amok and attempt to smear a (granted, equally unlikable) political opponent.
Start here (on page 4).
OK...
