Sweetheart deal turns sour for local candy company
USO, the non-profit group that provides off-hours relaxation and "Care packages" for members of the US military, is suing Revere-based NECCO, alleging the company kept advertising "Red White and You" Sweetheart candies as benefiting service members even after a deal between the two lapsed.
In its suit, filed in US District Court in Boston yesterday, USO acknowledges NECCO donated $75,000 to the organization in 2009 in exchange for using its logo in its advertising, but that the company kept right on using the logo - and making the $75,000-donation claim - in 2010 even though the two sides never reached an agreement for that year.
USO is seeking treble damages and lawyers fees.

The American Way!
"USO is seeking treble damages and lawyers fees." Ain't that the American way these days?
Wind Wafts Wafers to Wonderland
I feel bad for NECCO, one of the few remaining local manufacturers struggling to stay in business. They've had some bad luck over the past few years with a distributor who swindled them, and also a fire that shut down production for a while.
I miss the old water tower that was painted to look like a giant roll of NECCO Wafers at their old location in Cambridge (Mass Ave behind Paradise). Now that they're in Revere however, when the wind is just right, the smell of NECCO Wafers will waft to Wonderland!
The water tank is still
The water tank is still there. Novartis painted a DNA helix on it. http://goo.gl/maps/RZ24U
They Spread Their DNA All Over The Candy
When I first saw it, I thought it was kind of creepy that someone put DNA on top of the candy.
I guess prescription drugs
I guess prescription drugs really are the new candy.
