The City that Always sleeps rouses long enough to smack down a Park Square restaurant on hours

The Boston Business Journal reports the Boston Licensing Board rejected a proposed 1 a.m. closing time for a restaurant in the former Renaissance charter-school building because we can't have restaurants in that area staying open that late.

In fairness to residents, the developer of the school-to-apartments project did promise them any restaurant in the building would be open no later than 12:30 a.m., but the local neighborhood association stands firmly against any restaurants open past midnight.

This is idiotic. It would be great if the city pass and ordinance forbidding any Dining In or other food delivery services not be allowed to pass through the sacred Stuart / Arlington / Tremont perimeter after 12:30 AM? No soup for me? No soup for you. Bring back the European.

I dunno, I lived in Bay Village for a few years in the early 00's, late 90's and I wouldn't really care about a restaurant staying open until one. What irritated me were the transvestite hookers and crack users that settled in any doorway, alley, patio or other enclosed space. No one ever did anything about that.

I find it odd that the area that historically hosted a thriving nightlife scene has a problem with a much tamer restaurant scene late at night. Wouldn't it be better if the folks going to clubs, etc. had something to eat late at night before driving home?

1) This restaurant is not facing inward towards the residential area. It's is on Arlington and Stuart, which is already home to like 4 other restaurants. And it's surrounded by nightclubs. 2) To not allow this restaurant some latitude on the exact timing of the license is insane. It makes sense for a 1am licence because it gives the restaurant some flexibility with patrons as they finish meals/drinks. Or would BVNA call the police every night that they spot some poor slow-eater with a glass of chardonnay at 12:35am? IDIOTIC!
