Before that epic grand slam, you may recall, Alex Avila hit a home run, a woman caught the ball and then some Sox superfan ripped it out of her hands and threw it back on the field. Yahoo Sports reports he spent a good part of the night being a racist jerk.
Fans in Section 42 of the stadium confirmed that he directed multiple slurs at 25-year-old Angelo Sikoutris, a Detroit Tigers fan from Brooklyn, including a reference to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager whose shooting death sparked a national firestorm and prompted fierce debate about modern-day racism.

It's money. The cost of a decent seat is so expensive it could cover a weeks worth of food for a family of 4. People choose what they need over what they want. Which is why I haven't been at Fenway since 1998. I lived in Silicon Valley for 5 years and saw every Sox game played at Oakland. The price of a fabulous seat was ~$25. That I can afford. But Fenway prices are way beyond me. Add parking, snacks, a T-shirt and a ball for the kids and you're talking $400 for a day at Fenway with that family of 4.

I think we're jumping the gun on the guy being a "racist". Has he denied someone a job based on race? Has he beaten someone up based on raced? Or, while drunk, did he call a black guy (who maybe looked like Trayvon?) a name? Not a racial slur, just a name.....

or it was a joke about how Detroit is run down, bankrupt, and in many places resembles an addict ridden ghetto?
This is just one fans observations ... how did he treat others wearing Detroit jersey's? Saying he was a jerk to all Tigers fans wouldn't really help his racism allegations though, would it?

Should have had his ass escorted right out - updated - I guess they did - but still why didn't anyone call security earlier - not exactly appropriate behavior at Friendly Fenway.
They used to have the "Friendly Fenway" announcements for a number you could call (text?) - I don't recall them doing that this year - but have only been to a couple of games.
If those are season tix - whoever they belong to - if these stories are verified, they should be pulled.

WTF were the fans in the rows around him doing? Fans gotta police themselves in this instance. If he was going THERE with the race bit, no way he should have been tolerated for that long. He should've been tossed just on that.
I was in the grandstands last night and there were a few sloppy drunks, nothing malicious and certainly no race stuff. The few Detroit fans weren't getting any flack. Plenty of security and cops on hand.
If I heard someone going anywhere close with a remark like that, he would've been gone in a matter of moments. C'mon bleachers, get on it.

I was at a playoff game against the Yankees in '04 with a friend and a couple of his friends from NYC (born and bred) who were rooting & geared for the Yankees. They are both Indian descent and some local mouth-breather started dropping some pretty offensive comments based on that rather than their team allegiance. I tipped off the security guard behind our section and they immediately went on the move (moved to within earshot and tossed them at the next comment). No regrets, as a matter of fact I hoped they spent a shitload on scalped tickets.

So if someone makes a dumb joke while drunk, it automatically makes them a racist?
Racism
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
Explain to me how you can assume that this person believes either of those based on the fact that he called a black guy Trayvon. What he the guy was asian and he called him Jackie Chan. What if it was an Irish guy and he called him Sully?

fucking serious? I guess he took those "We are all Trayvon" t-shirts just a little too seriously? The crack about going back to the ghetto must have been a cleverly disguised commentary on the economic blight that Detroit is currently suffering, that as Rush postulates was caused by Democratic mayors, amirite?
Feeding the trolls against my better judgment
By anon
Mon, 10/14/2013 - 11:50am
It's telling that you think Trayvon is just another public figure on the same level as Jackie Chan. I would consider it racist if someone yelled "Jackie Chan" at a random Asian person too, but the two instances aren't at all equivalent. Considering that Trayvon Martin was shot and killed, invoking his name is an implicit threat.

Words don't mean things! For example, in the film Dog Day Afternoon, when Al Pacino starts chanting Attica, he wasn't doing it to bring up the excessive police force at the riot in order to connect it to the police presence outside of the bank, he was just doing it because he has Tourette's.
