UPDATE, Tuesday morning: Suspect nabbed in Randolph.
State Police report they're having some trouble catching a guy driving around our local highways - when he sees a cruiser, he guns his engine and speeds away.
The operator of this motorcycle operates between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., weekdays. He has been observed by Troopers on Route 24, Interstate 93, and Route 128 (I-95) traveling in excess of 100 mph using all lanes and operating in a reckless manner.
If the operator of the motorcycle observes a marked state police cruiser, he will accelerate, using the breakdown lane to a speed above 100 mph to avoid being stopped or identified. The motorcycle has no plate mounted.
He's a white guy in black helmet and black leather jacket, who sometimes wears brown Carhartt insulated construction pants.

Police catch up with “reckless” motorcyclist
RANDOLPH —
The driver of a motorcycle who police have called “reckless,” who was allegedly speeding at up to 100 mph along Route 24 and other highways in recent days, was caught Tuesday morning, according to state police.
State Police Trooper Stephen Walker said the man was captured at about 8:07 a.m., after police received multiple 911 calls alerting them to the motorcyclist’s wherabouts.
One truck driver called police to tell him the motorcyclist was “down in the ditch,” driving on the grass median in between the north and south bound lanes of Route 24, Walker said.
“He was driving like a maniac, I’m glad my family wasn’t out there,” Walker added.
State police said the driver, who has not been identified, was weaving in and out of cars, and driving north in the breakdown lane on the southbound side of Route 24 Tuesday morning.
Randolph Police officer Kevin Donnelly confirmed the man was spotted in Randolph, near 50 Masseo Dr., where state police arrested him.

Arlington police officer spotted Rebello a few days ago when he went into a bank, but Rebello sped off. Based on information provided by the officer, troopers had identified Rebello and were preparing to arrest him. They did not need to track him down, however, because he rode into their custody this morning, State Police said.

Typical crap newspaper reporting. Did he "ride into custody" or did they find him hiding behind a trailer in a parking lot?
In either case, it sounds like this guy would still be at large if he hadn't "ridden into custody" himself, in spite of apparently being so well-known to police that they figured out his work schedule.
How many weeks can you operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts with no plates (let alone speed recklessly) before the police actually arrest you?

US and MA civil forfeiture laws only stipulate that the property was used to commit a crime (like "Operating to Endanger"). The laws are incredibly broad. and increasingly abused by law enforcement agencies (although I suspect few would consider it so in this case).

I don't fully expect the law to do much about this guy - unless reckless motorcyclists are automatically "badder" than reckless drivers (despite the vast differences in mass).
I do expect that this guy, if he doesn't clean up his act like the real-life Terror of Highway 101 did, will atomize himself in some ugly accident involving one motorcycle and a massive and immovable object (just like the Terror did in the song).
Irresponsible cyclists are most hazardous to themselves.

We have groups of teenagers who go around on dirt bikes and those four wheeled things, and the police refuse to do any thing about it. I always get some variation of "we are not allowed to chase them, as they might hurt themselves trying to escape". Let me say that I blame the parents first, friends and neighbors second and the police third. People must know who these kids are, they should be calling the police and giving them their names.
