WBUR general manager to Barnicle haters: It's been 10 years, people, give it a rest. But while he tells Dan Kennedy he thinks Boston needs Barnicle, he doesn't say whether he's offering Barnicle a job on 'BUR.

The plagiarism isn't even the issue
The issue is that first off, Barnicle isn't particularly good at what he does, and secondly, what he does isn't what I want from WBUR. I want to hear a know-nothing blowhard gas on about crap he doesn't know the first thing about, I'll go listen to Sully while he's propping up the bar at Doyle's. That's not what I turn to a radio station for.

Don't be so quick to judge. Sully's a cool guy, just carries on a bit too long when he's been drinking, which, as you know, is pretty much every day. But never before noon.

The plagiarism and fake stories are still the issue for me. That's the first thing I think about every time I see him or hear his voice. His column used to be a must-read for my entire family. I even had one favorite one taped to the inside of my locker in high school (yeah, I know how lame that sounds).
I can't imagine him associated with WBUR, maybe I'm holding them up on too high of a pedestal.
Don't do it, WBUR
If WBUR wants to quickly ruin the sterling reputation they have deserverdly built up over the past two decades, they should hire Mike Barnicle.

Provincial cynicism. That is Barnicle's unique contribution to journalism in the Hub. Is his brother still on the job? If not, he has nothing by way of those 'on the street' stories that both propelled him forward and sunk him in the end.
Why hire a guy with that history who hasn't made the effort to reinvent himself, as a journalist. He's just moved on. Has his work ever been more than just average?

His wife is a high-ranking VP at
Bank of America. For many corporate
entities (and I count WBUR among them)
that is a huge part of the "remarkable
gift".
