Reminds me that as a student in broadcasting school I was warned against the pronunciation "draw-rers". Say "drawers" aloud. Do you add the middle "r"?

Drorers

I say it more like "drorers" (rhymes with snore-ers).
Not really a full second syllable, but not a single syllable either.
If people pronounce it "draws", that isn't wrong either. Simply a regional preference.
However, I wouldn't post a Chest of Drore-ers for sale on Craigslist (with or without a Meer). The funny thing here isn't that people say "drores" or "draws" or whatever, but that it ends up being spelled that way in multiple listings.

Among other things, they're where my wife keeps her brars.
Most speakers of American English rhyme the word with "chores": one syllable. It's just chewier than most, with the initial consonant cluster followed by the rhotic final R.
That's a great idear.

I took drafting, which is drawing for you non-technically inclined, but not 'draughting', which is English and therefore totally correct in every way. So, I guess words are just a bunch of random letters strung together. So, ghuck off (it's a joke) and pronounce the rhotic final R as 'aah' as God intended it.

I have had arguments with people who didn't understand what I was talking about when I pointed out the misspelling of "drawers." These were college-educated people who just could not see the misspelling. I mean, of course hardly anyone would actually pronounce "draw-ers" or "drawrers" but I can't understand how anyone could write "chest of draws" and not immediately think it looked stupid. English is full of words that are spelled differently than they sound, but it is intriguing how this illustrates a mental disconnect in people's minds. When you write "chest of draws" don't you think, "what is a "draw?" And then, isn't it obvious the thing is a drawer, so you fix your mistake? Or do you instead start thinking that the things in the furniture might actually be "draws" because you draw them open like how you might "draw" the drapes...
Maybe...just maybe

Maybe they argued with you not because they didn't understand but actually because you are a rude, douchey, arrogant grammar nazi? And to say you've had arguments (plural) just slays me. So pointing out mispelled "drawers" is something you do regularly? You must feel wicked smaht.

For whatever reason, in the furniture industry, drawer is sometimes listed as "draw", and of course "dr" in descriptions, literature, websites, etc . Its been that way for a long time. This is true across the country not just in Boston.
