Police: Man goes berserk on Orange Line train, attacks two passengers, is subdued by a third
Transit Police report arresting an Arlington man last night for an incident on an inbound Orange Line train they say started with him hurling insults at two women and escalated to him trying to rob them, spitting at them and waving his fists at them.
Police say a male passenger managed to get ahold of Richard Botelho, 43, and keep him from moving until police could arrive at the Haymarket Orange Line platform around 8:45 p.m.
According to police, Botelho began yelling insults at two women. They asked him to stop and, when he refused, moved to another part of the car, police say. Police add:
Botelho continued his harassment and then attempted to forcefully grabbed a cell phone one of the victim's was holding onto to. As the victim and Botelho struggled for her phone Botelho began spitting on both victims and swinging his fists wildly.
Botelho is scheduled for arraignment today in Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery and unarmed robbery.
Innocent, etc.

Can't wait
for the Night owl service to start.
Me too
Safer than when these losers are the ones driving the cabs.
Because attacks only happen at night. Oh. I see.
Did this guy just crawl out
Did this guy just crawl out of a cave somewhere?
I thought
Cro-Magnon were extinct.

You mean Neanderthal (Homo sapiens neanderthalensis). Cro-Magnon is the colloquial name for early european Homo sapiens sapiens (ie, most of us).

So when are the MBTA police
So when are the MBTA police going to start patrolling the subway system instead of being everywhere but?
Never
Remember: They are a union, so they don't have to try.

Stopped reading it six years ago
Couldn't get my home delivery right and it became a little too white trashy for me. It was more readable when George Kimball (RIP) was involved.
Give it a rest...
They can't be everywhere on every single train all the time. That's an unreasonable expectation. Crime happens. Luckily this nut case is locked up now.
Give it a rest? Why? In 30+
Give it a rest? Why? In 30+ years I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SINGLE UNIFORMED MBTA OFFICER RIDE THE TRAINS!
Plenty of coffee circles at turnstiles as fare evaders breeze by in the background. NEVER ONCE an officer on a train or platform proactively.
If they even had one uniformed team riding each line randomly sweeping trains and stations it would make a difference.
Cops on trains
I saw two MBTA cops board an Alewife train in SS a little past five tonight
Uniformed cops don't help on trains....
That to you think the ratio of crime/train is for a month of service? 1/100? 1/1,000? 1/2,000?
I'd as its around 1/1,500 or so. That means your odds are 1/1,500 in a crime happening on a train where a u informed officer is present, and if a crime happens to happen on one of those trains that don't have an officer?. It means a much slower response time for those officers to get there since you would have them on trains instead of other places.
Officers on trains are really the purest form of security theatre. It is a false sense of security where the officers are really going to be useless.
They actually have TWO
They actually have TWO uniformed teams riding trains daily. As was previously said: you will never find a cop in every train/station/street corner/ building/neighborhood, nice try though
I see them on Ashmont train
I see them on Ashmont train all the time in afternoon they also ride the 23 bus from Ashmont to Dudley not daily but they do ride them.
I saw him on the redline last
I saw him on the redline last week, was thinking how much he looked like trouble. Was talking to himself and making hand gestures like he wanted to hit somebody. Sure was glad when he got off the train.
Same guy?
Right age...

Arlington has over 50 half-way homes,
Arlington has over 50 half-way homes, group homes, a psych eval unit, drug treatment center, assisted living housing, section 8 housing etc. to welcome people like him.
Because all those people
Are just like him.
Including the over 22s with a mental age of 4. Including the people in assisted living.
Right.
From what I can tell, it is the people who are not supervised - the adult children living at home when not in jail - who are a much bigger problem in pretty much every community.
Poor and/or ill does not equal violent.
There's no correlation between violent behavior and people living in any of those types of residences.
Two-trick pony
Besides his obsession with wanting cars to hit cyclists, MarKKK also dedicates his life to trying to stop people with disabilities from living in his community.
Think I saw this guy before
I was on a packed E Line train in the morning, and some man-child, possibly drunk, but definitely a huge asshole, was just laying across the floor of the train, taking up valuable standing room which actually had hip-level railings. Looked alot like this guy, although maybe a bit younger.

Nice work, sir!
