When taking photos of white objects that fill almost all of the frame, like snow and white flowers, you need to overexpose by at least one stop. Otherwise, you just end up with grey snow/flowers/etc. and a pretty lousy pic. Most cameras have an override for this, even the simplest cameras. Try it, you'll be amazed how much better your pic comes out.
