When Clear Channel cans an employee, that's at the hands of a greedy investment firm. WXRV is owned by a sole proprietorship, which would thus make him the one biggest scumbag.
Nope. A "great" station does not adhere to playlists. Period. If I hear "Let Her Go" fewer than three times a day I'm feeling lucky. That song makes me want to cut myself. WXRV is a decent station. They surprise me with song selections now and then. Sadly, this station is the best we can do for commercial radio these days in Boston. Music radio is dying and deservedly so. There is little imagination present on the airwaves. WMBR is still the best for people who care about music.
I remember the very first day they were on air, 1996...I thought it was some type of pirate radio station.since then, I've been listening, especially the Sunday morning show.
For anyone unfamiliar with the station its musical programming variety is enormous. The station's web site will give you a brief idea if each program's interests.
**Nope. A "great" station does not adhere to playlists. Period.**
What would rather have...some DJ who plays anything that comes into his/her head at any given moment?
A "playlist" is simply preparing in advance what songs will be played. Most good DJ's want to know what they are playing before they go into the studio...so they can prepare comments, etc.
Playlists are "provided" by a station owner and determined by big record labels and artists who have major, international representation, in other words, the listener is being fed whatever the suits want to sell. And yes, I would rather listen to someone with good taste play whatever he or she wants to play. You can always tell when someone knows their music. If you're paying attention to any commercial radio station you will see that the same songs are played at pretty much the same time every day. And most good DJs would be ecstatic to show an audience what they know about music and not be told what to play.
Sonny Joe White was one of the founders of wxks Kiss 108 FM, If it wasn't for Sonny Joe White, there would'nt have been a " Matty in the morning" and the millions that they pay him!
quotient is a major factor in marketing and sales to that aspiring 25-54 demo. Still wearing yoga pants at 49, listening to Adam Levine while adoring his poster, Facebook friends with Matty's show. Yes Matty hell is lucrative but it is still hell.
Thank you for your alt suggestions to The River - This 55 year old mom (who remembers Dale Dorman's morning show) is now working remotely off the west coast of Vancouver and is getting tired of listening to the same music on WXRV. Will look into WMBR.
