The way MA enforces its current gun laws is at best, weak. People at the statehouse last week argued for "TOUGHER GUN LAWS!" to try and "SAVE MORE LIVES!". Instead of asking why people like this keep getting off:

I think that the person interviewed by the Globe who said that "It’s just this gang violence. You only got a selected few that make it bad” put their finger on it. That is a true statement. These issues are community issues. The people shot, and most likely their shooters, are from the places that they are being shot and killed. Overwhelmingly, the people in these commnuities are not directly involved in this activity and are terrorized by it. However, people within the community know who is involved and, more importantly, the families of those involved. The solution is to get to those families at the community level and break the cycle of gang violence and gang membership more generally.

For starters make people serve their sentences and mandatory minimums instead of walking through a revolving door to offend all over again.

Having a youth culture where the thug life was unacceptable rather than condoned at best, venerated worst, would help too.
