It's a good idea. But I'm disappointed that, unlike Somerville's Porchfest, they don't allow anyone to schedule their own performances. Instead they have to approve them or something, and at some point they announced that they were too busy to add any more to the schedule.
Somerville vs JP Porchfest scheduling
Somerville allowed anyone to schedule their own performance up to the day of the event -- but they also depended entirely on the website to guide visitors around the event. There were no printed maps, and no good way to print a usable map from the website. This became an especially big problem when the Porchfest (Somerville Arts Council) website crashed during the event due to excess load -- for the second year in a row.
JP Porchfest is distributing a printed map, which requires a deadline some time in advance before the event. (They also have a better website, and I hope a more reliable one too.)

This idea originated in Ithaca, NY
and then spread to Somerville a few years ago when an Ithaca resident moved here. Somerville's is in mid-May each year.
