City officials back 24-hour drive-thru at East Boston McDonald's

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let the newly renovated McDonald's at 178 Border St. extend its drive-thru closing time from midnight to never.
At a hearing today, the move got "strong support" from both Mayor Walsh and City Councilor Sal LaMattina, whose representatives told the board that the round-the-clock food would be a good fit in an area that already has two 24-hour pharmacies.
Franchise owner Peter Tripoletti told the board customers have been calling the McDonald's 800 number to complain about being turned away after midnight. He added that 24-hour operations would be safe for his overnight employees than a 2 or 3 a.m. closing time, because they would be locked into the restaurant rather than "walking home 15 or 20 minutes at 2, 3 in the morning."
Tripoletti added that if the board approves the hours extension for the drive-thru, he would first post prominent signs alerting people that they will only be served if they are in vehicles - otherwise, he said, people would try to walk up to the window and order food.

I'm a fattie who loves McD.. but I wont eat this one. Gross. Too many sketchy people around, and I see why they will have signs about only being served in a car.
Too bad some of these McD's that have closed dining rooms didn't have a walk up window like the old one at Haymarket did. So much foot traffic it would create.

How is this legal under ADA? If you have a disability, and cant drive, youre denied service.

Same question could be asked of banks with drive thru's.
There's nothing stopping someone from going thru the drive thru, you just need to be in a car. It's not like disabled people are all homebodys who never get out .. they do have van services (a la The RIDE) too.

God forbid anyone who eats at McDonald's might also get some exercise by ... shudder ... walking.

I don't get it, though
There are a lot of "drive thru" windows that won't sell to people on bikes, motorcycles, or on foot - even when the rest of the restaurant is not open.
I have yet to hear any good reason for this.

Its not good, 1) It will be the only eatery opened 24 hours in Eastie,
2) During the summer warm months , it will be a hangout for teens, The Parking lot will be a hangout for teens driving thier cars with loud music and loud mufflers at 3am 4am 5am ,
3) Also, it will not be fair for future development home/condo owners on nearby Decatur / Border street to put up with excessive loud automobile/ people noise using border street to get to mcdonalds at 4 oclock in the morning . After 11pm if a neighbor is having a loud party, you have every right to call the cops, to have them be quiet. They are in fact disturbing the peace.

What's stopping the parking lot of the strip mall from being a hangout for teens driving their cars with loud music and loud mufflers at 3am 4am 5am during the summer warm months now?
As for your third point, neighbors having loud parties has nothing to do with McDonalds. Even if there is no 24 hour eateries in East Boston, that happens, like it does in the rest of the city.
As with other posts on like this, I'm not from Eastie, so take what I write with a grain of salt.
