Man from Nantucket makes bid for Boston City Council
By adamg on Tue, 05/20/2008 - 12:24pm
There once was a man from Nantucket
Floppy-haired selectman who stuck it
But to Boston he flew
City council he knew
Alas, voters told him, oh, f**k it
Oh, I'm sure you can do better, so have at it.

There once was a clown from Nantucket…..
Who moved to Boston, to work for Maura Hennigan
He decided that he would be like her & run a campaign in which he has not shot.
He is a clown; I love how tools like this move to the city & think they can solve our ills.
Please go away, go back to the Borne Rotary you loser with too much time on your hands….
There once was a hack from
There once was a hack from Nantucket
He moved to Boston for a new racket
They said go to work
This kid is a dork
I wish I were an incumbent
Shucks
A carpenter down in Nantucket
Having recently run out his luck at
Selectman and senate
Said Boston’s big, innit?
The council’s my oyster, I’ll shuck it.

do that again!!! do that again!!!
Doggerel to order
Just give me a topic
Robocall
Got a robocall from Mr. Bennett this weekend. Said he was going to be in our neighborhood and hoped that he would meet us. Never said where he was going to be or anything, so I'm not sure it was a very effective strategy.
On a more interesting note, the caller ID came up as "US Govt GSA". Who was doing these calls for him, and how did they get access to a GSA phone number?
City Councilor schedule
Who knows which seats are up for re-election, this year, and which are, next year? I can't seem to find anywhere if this guy is running for this fall's election, or next year, either.
Thx!
All city council seats are open in odd years
So he's giving himself 15 months or so to actually learn where Dorchester is, since the next elections will be in 2009 (who knows, by then maybe he'll know enough to take on Menino).
The Globe must assume everybody knows this, since they didn't bother to mention it in their story.
How to get information about Boston City Council elections.
Please post their response if you followup and submit the question at

Were you like this as a kid?
Boston city clerk
I think the state's elections website is excellent - there is a lot of useful information available, including instructions on how to run for state office. (It's so good, you almost can miss seeing the Secretary of State's face and name plastered over every page ...)
The city of Boston's election site, unfortunately, sucks. No information on who is up for election, or when. Or, how you go about qualifying for a run.
You know, a cynic would say, they do it on purpose.
Nah-h-h-h.

More on the Man from Nantucket
The Bulletin: First City Council contender announces.
Dorchester Reporter: Former Nantucket selectman launches council at-large bid (story also notes he is the second candidate to announce).
I've seen Bennett everywhere
This guy Bennett has been campaigning like a machine. I got an autocall from him and the next day he was at my house.
Word around town is that a bunch of other townies have already met him.
Even my buddy from East Boston said Bennett's been through there already.
Watch this young kid win an at-large seat next year.
