Horsing around on City Hall Plaza

The Budweiser Clydesdales are on City Hall Plaza today through Sunday as a Budweiser video crew shoots one of its "responsible drinking" ads at a couple of local bars over the weekend.

That is soiled bedding, manure and waste hay. From what, ten horses? For one day. Think what Boston must have smelled like when there were thousands of horses in the city. And I LOVE horses AND their smell.

First - that dumpster is full of manure gold! (Better than hay if you are a gardener or eat organic produce)
Second - I can almost smell the scent of clean horse. I used to barnsit for Shires (larger than Clydes, even), and when I rattled the gran scoop, they would come barreling in. Since their tender hooves are the size of very large dinner plates, I worked FAST to get their suppers in their bins before they arrived.
I also used to exercise a Clyde that was an equine therapy horse, and she was the sweetest old gal. It was like riding in a slow floaty boat.
I've seen one of the Bud Clydes teams up close and personal, and their care, livery and presentation is remarkable.
Miss 'em and glad they are visiting.

There were all sorts of brewery team horses stabled by Mission Hill,, on Heath street over to Terrace ect surrounds. I knew an old Croft guy worked with the horses.

If you like draft horses, many of the agricultural fairs in New England have draft horse pulls that are lots of fun to watch. It has to be a real agricultural fair, though, not a "festival" or "carnival" or whatever. The season's pretty much over, but there are many throughout the summer. There is also a group called the Draft Animal Power Network (http://www.draftanimalpower.org/) that has events and field days.
