WPRI reports that [url=http://wpri.com/2014/10/09/providence-phoenix-to-p... Providence Phoenix will publish its final issue next Thursday[/url], ending nearly 36 years of service to Rhode Island. The Boston Phoenix [url=http://www.universalhub.com/2013/reports-phoenix-f... publishing in March 2013[/url].
With the Providence paper's closing, only the weekly Portland Phoenix remains of what was once a large regional media empire: Boston Phoenix, Providence Phoenix, Portland Phoenix, Worcester Phoenix, Stuff@Night magazine, WFNX radio, and the Spanish-language El Planeta newspaper.
