Even though we don't know the cause of death yet, it's safe bet to say that it's going to get a lot worse for the cities homeless. With the Long Island shelter closed a lot of these people don't have anywhere to go.
This is Cambridge not Boston.

This is Cambridge not Boston. Cambridge (and other municipalities) should be providing adequate resources to take care of its own homeless population and not deporting them to Boston.

The Long Island bus would drop off people in the morning at the Woodsmullen shelter on Mass Ave. Many would then get on the #1 bus to Central Square and Harvard Square. It's not a city by city problem it's a regional issue. You take away the single largest shelter in the state and you're going to have problems everywhere.
Do we know this woman was homeless?

I mean, I agree that we will see more medical emergencies, but most shelters close during the day as it is.
I did find a women who was nearly unresponsive on the sidewalk a couple of weeks ago. That was a new one.

Local to me police have suggested to call them immediately if you find someone unresponsive (which I suspect you did). Apparently the heroin is rather strong these days and can result in people going to sleep and not waking up.

there's no guarantee it was a homeless person, either. Anyone can be walking down the street, feel ill, sit down on a bench to rest, and die, because the cause of their symptoms was a stroke or heart attack.
There were plenty of people

There were plenty of people on the street in Harvard Square even when that shelter was open.
Have more people been turned away from the remaining shelters after the closure?

Just curious, as there are two in Harvard Square -- the big one just north of the Coop, and a smaller one two blocks south on JFK Street.
My guess...

That whole block north of the Coop is homeless central, so I assume it's that one. Plus, there are no benches near the one on JFK street.
Any identification yet?
