Two students attacked, one stabbed outside Jamaica Plain school
Around 12:30 p.m. at the Margarita Muñiz Academy on Child Street (the former Agassiz School).
The student was transported to a local hospital with a stab wound to the upper right torso. BPS says his injuries are not considered life threatening.
Police are looking for four or five male teens, all wearing hoodies, who fled toward Forest Hills. The possible stabber is 18 or 19 and has shoulder-length corn-row braids tinted yellow. One of his accomplices wore a yellow hoodie, another a gray and green hoodie.
BPS released a transcript of the robo-call being made to parents by school leader Dania Vazquez:
As always on Fridays, our students were dismissed at 12:30 and I was saying goodbye to them outside. Quite suddenly, two of our students were attacked across the street from our school by a group of individuals that are not from our community. One of the boys has injuries and we are confident that he will recover. The Boston Police and School Police responded immediately and have started an investigation. We know that this news is difficult to hear.
All of our students were terrific - they all acted appropriately, responding to our directions and expressing their care for their school community. Our staff has been phenomenal, helping to ensure that everyone was safe and supported. We want you to know that safety is extremely important to us for all our students, families and staff inside and outside of the school building.
We are working closely with the Boston Police and School Police to ensure safety for all of our students in both Muñiz Academy and Mission Hill. We will have extra police presence throughout next week.

Sorry
Why are kids going to school? It's dangerous for kids to go to school. It's reprehensible, that kids are encouraged to go to school. It's not safe out there, for kids to be in school. Kids should know better, than to go to school.
Public school in some
Public school in some districts is becoming tantamount to child abuse. Why the Hell aren't more administrators at BPS being fired for allowing these sorts of environments to exist?
No one is being held responsible at the top and the kids are being crushed at the bottom.
Just stop
Thugs come to the exterior area of the school at lunch time when the kids are outside and the administrator needs to be fired? Where's the child abuse?
The people who have failed here are the families of the kids that did this, not the school staff.
Let me guess, you don't have kids in the BPS or know anyone who does, right?
How many fights and assaults
How many fights and assaults occurs in BPS schools each day vs. every other school district in the state? Why is it that certain BPS schools have to have a police detail present during release every day in order to avoid riots? WTF kind of learning environment is that? Kids which should have been expelled long ago stay in the system because an administrator refuses to take action other than requesting meetings which parents which don't care, condone, or encourage such behavior.
I don't even the teachers which have to put up with this crap and have no support from their bosses. This probably why so many give up and leave the system to teach elsewhere.
Seriously
My son goes to the Mission Hill School (which shares the building with the Muniz), and it's about the furthest thing from a bad environment I can think of. Good kids, good teachers, in a very nice neighborhood of JP....so a couple of knuckleheads caused some trouble, I am nervous for my kid, but don't see this as any sort of pattern at the school....take a deep breath and relax.
Risk Tolerance
Random isolated incident. Treated as such.
But lets say there was a stabbing/mugging/rape at that school every month. The police warned about such incidents and that it was a know trouble spot littered with condoms and weird people hanging out.
The trouble school is across the street from your house. The nearest safe school is 2 miles away.
Do you as a parent:
A) Continue to send your child and tell yourself its not supposed to be like that?
B) Send you kids to another, safer school?
Still trying to figure out what weird point
you're trying to make here.
How will people know what
How will people know what attacks are if they didn't go to school? Some people who are smart enough will teach themselves how 2 do an attack. Its not like I disagree with the fact that its dangerous I just think that without education people will do some random and dumb things. I just disagree with the fact of no school because some people will do drugs, kill people, etc. People will also need the education to know the good facts and the bad facts even if people don't like school.
Pepper Spray Debate
Lets hear from the city councilors who believe that arming school police is the real problem with safety in the schools
How would pepper spray have
How would pepper spray have helped in this situation?
Strategic pepper spray
Strategic pepper spray, capable of hitting the thugs on the other side of the street with pinpoint accuracy, could have been deployed and rendered the thugs harmless.
What's that? There is no such thing? Well, then -- I guess pepper spray wouldn't have made any difference.
