Cosmo Catalano explains why the Starbucks on Church Street in Harvard Square sucks while the one on Newbury Street in the Back Bay between Dartmouth and Exeter is just divine. It's all in the baristas they hire.

The Starbucks further up on Newbury Street has some pretty rude customers also. They'll order one fancy drink, bring it back two or three times, cutting into the line each time, until the drink is exactly the way they want it. Then they'll take a newspaper, read it, and put it back without paying for it so the next person gets a thumbed-through copy with sections missing.
So it's not just me, then...

The Church Street Starbucks is the one that told me they couldn't do iced decaf. I could have iced regular, or hot decaf. So the next time I was in a Starbucks, I asked if they could do iced decaf, and they looked at me like I had three heads and said "Sure!".

Funnily, I ran into this same problem at a restaurant once in upstate New York. It was after Labor Day and my mom asked for an iced tea. The waitress told us that they don't make iced tea after Labor Day. My mom asked if they had hot black tea, the waitress said yes. My mom said "Great, please bring me a hot black tea and a large cup of just ice."
