I work near there.. I'm glad I told a few driving coworkers around 4pm to leave because I knew once certain areas backed up it would just do it everywhere. Really glad I take the T sometimes.

City did a lousy job removing snow. City street are a mess. Most streets are down to one lane of parking. Busses and truck can't pass.

Every Snowy Winter

Maybe tonight was particularly bad, but this happens every time there's plowable snow. The snowbanks narrow the roads, slow down traffic, and the effects are very noticeable.

In contrast to Feb. 2013, the City did a great job of getting out early and often to keep the streets passable through the whole storm. But in contrast to Feb. 2013, the City never plowed the streets widely enough to even approximate their proper width. I don't understand why it simply stopped plowing with a half-finished job.

Opposite Day

Saw the mess from my office. Then saw it worsen as I headed across Dewey Square.

Then came the firetrucks, etc.

I took a back exit from the parking lot, then flipped around, got onto Congress headed away fro the mess on wide open road and dove into the rabbit hole and onto I-93 North. I was going 30-50 mph until traffic finally slowed way down around where all that stalled traffic was getting on downtown.

Usually the highway backs traffic onto the surface streets. Today it seems that the backup on the surface streets was keeping traffic off the highway.

Its complicated

I used to bike in this weather when I worked in the LMA - like, after that #1 all-time storm in 2003! But twelve years later I'm a geezer, and a total wheezer when temps get down where they were yesterday.

We have also been transporting neighbors and offspring who don't have cars and have thus avoided T hell.

I had to laugh when I saw a tiny car with every dent and rust spot covered in cycling stickers, crammed with five people in the HOV lane yesterday.There are limits.
