128 goes boom
By adamg on Sat, 07/12/2008 - 8:32am
Gas tanker rolled over and exploded on Rte. 128 south near Highland Avenue around 5:30 a.m.; road shut, driver slightly injured, smoke visible from across the region.
Miss Von Schtoop was up early, went out for a drive, took photos along the way of a smoke ring from the accident drifting over Mission Hill, Cambridge, downtown and South Boston, including this montage from Southie:

Great photos!
Her first two are right in front of where I live to boot!
Near me too!
Neal - I think we must practically be neighbors then! :)
Cool
Cool. I live right next to the Piano Factory. My bedroom window faces it.
I'm not even going to ask
I'm not even going to ask what the traffic looked like on 128 at that time.
5:30am on a Saturday?
I bet traffic wasn't bad.
And the sun was blotted from the sky in Roslindale
Bob, my barber, says he got to the Rialto in Rozzie Square early this morning and it got really dark all of a sudden and he looked up and thought it was about to begin pouring. But then, just as quickly, the "cloud" was gone (no doubt headed for its date with destiny, that is, Miss Von Schtoop's roving camera in Mission Hill, Southie, etc.).
Around 630 this morning
Around 630 this morning there was a very well defined black line on the horizon looking toward Rosi from Forest Hills. At first I figured it was some kind of storm cloud, then a tire fire.
That must have been one heck
That must have been one heck of an explosion to create that ring.
The origin of the cloud of smoke
Tanker fireball.
amazing that no one was
amazing that no one was seriously injured.
