Uber driver charged with indecent attack on female passenger
Boston Police report arresting an Uber driver they say indecently assaulted a passenger after he dropped off three of her friends early Sunday.
According to police:
The victim, a 30-year-old female from Boston, told officers that she was with three friends and called for an Uber ride at the end of the night. A photo receipt was sent and the four females were picked up by the Uber driver a short time later. According to the victim, her three friends were dropped off and she remained in the car to be dropped off at a different location. The victim stated to officers that during this time alone with the Uber driver, he indecently touched her several times.
Police did not say where the driver picked up the women, but said they responded to the North End to take the woman's report.
Abderrahim Dakiri, 36, was arrested in East Boston and charged with indecent assault and battery.
Innocent, etc.

this actually doesn't reflect poorly on Uber
If the same thing had happened in a traditional cab, it would be much harder to identify the driver. On top of being despicable conduct, it blows my mind the stupidity of someone who would think they could get away with molesting an Uber passenger.
It doesn't look great, but...
It's pretty hard to avoid. If the driver doesn't have a criminal record, not much Uber can do besides try and tell the future. As you pointed it, it is nice that there's a record of who the driver was....a pretty dumb criminal really.
A lot of these drivers come
A lot of these drivers come from cultures where its okay to assault women. And not get arrested for it. How does a background check find that ?
You're right
I've had a lot of American drivers!
Uber is a sign of the times
UNDER-employment still rampant in this economy has been a boon to companies like Uber and Starbucks. Why, people in Arlington using Uber are even finding drivers who live in Arlington. If the underemployed get good jobs, they will make up fewer Uber drivers going forward and these types of incidents could keep increasing.
Darn tooten
I make $200 less a week doing trivia stuff now. I'm not going to eat that and sit here with my (expletive) in my hand. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Don't forget to write.

For good or ill the economy
For good or ill the economy is moving back towards piecework and day labor. The decentralization of the labor market thanks to technology is part of this. The other half is a response to government regulation and market realities.
Hey, dummy
You know that thing that makes Uber exist in the first place? You know, the technology that tells you where the passenger is? The same thing tells Uber where you are and who you are.
You're running a business, you (expletive.) A woman in your car in this context is not license for grabass. You were not on a date and she's not laughing at your jokes and sitting next to you without flinching. Sayonara, you prick. More driving business for us non-criminals.
Just saw a Lyft driver got arrested the other day....
He had a suspended license and an open case out of Chelsea for an indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, and some sort of hate crime charge on the same date.....
Not sure how Lyft does their backgrounds.
What you will see now though, are Uber and Lyft drivers starting to get citations for various violations, and they will add up and licenses will get suspended/revoked etc. (Not much different than the cab industry)
"indecent attack"?
...should he have worn a tie?
Or pants!
!
This is what happens
When a company is in a rush to grow and crush the competition they tend to cut corners on the type of people they do business with. Last year at this time uber x had great drivers. Not as many but the quality of drivers was second to none. One year later they have rapist getting arrested almost weekly.. My understanding of the process is that these guys don't even interview or get training from uber. That's a scary proposition
