Man pulls boy out of the frigid water.
A passerby who heard the screams of boys playing behind the Intercontinental Hotel rushed down a dock to rescue their playmate, who had fallen into the frigid waters of Fort Point Channel this afternoon.
Tez Garcia, who was nearby taking pictures of the frozen harbor at the time, forwarded photos of the dramatic rescue, which happened around 3:30 p.m.
The kids, who had been playing by themselves on sleds on a mound of snow that ended right at the water a few feet away from the water-taxi dock, start looking for the missing boy - and screaming for help:
WBZ reports a man walking on the walkway along the water heard their screams and rushed down the snow-covered dock in the channel to begin looking for the kid:
As he grabbed hold of him and pulled him up, other bystanders rushed down the dock with a life saver and helped pull the boy further up the dock:
Firefighters and EMTs arrived quickly:
The boy was rushed to Tufts Medical Center:

There are scientists who believe in God. There are doctors who reference angels.
Believe or don't believe. This guy saved a kid's life. Maybe there was help from above, or maybe this guy is an "angel" in the euphemistic sense. Yet there is always someone mocking religion out there.
Missionaries go to foreign lands, mock the traditional beliefs there, and expect converts. What they do is act dickish. So yes, there is an equivalence in the very large world of people who believe in God. Mocking people's beliefs does not make friends is my point.

You are right. Not all atheists are they types who mock the beliefs of others. That is a horrible generalization on my behalf. However, it is the ones that do that really make the movement look bad.
Look, I'm socially conservative, but tolerant. The Westboro Baptist Church, violent antiabortion people, and the ilk like that make me cringe, mainly because they are horrible and have beliefs on the side of the spectrum close to where I am sometimes. This is the same thing. Like I say, believe or don't believe, but I just get my Irish up when people mock belief in God.

Lucky and yes--quick thinking on the guy's part. This sounds like that kind of old-fashioned close call/great rescue that we all secretly wanted as kids--think George and Harry Bailey, Jo and Amy March. I love the picture of these kids out on their own with their sleds--sad that there will probably be some "where were the parents??" backlash.

Because that is very likely the reason these kids were not being supervised - parents who are wage earners and have to work are really up against the wall between high heating costs and not being able to get to their jobs (and, therefore, not getting paid).

I'm betting that mom or dad were nearby.
Perhaps nearby, but busy parking cars, setting up the dining room for the next meal, peeling vegetables, cleaning rooms, etc.
This snow mess has been rough on everyone, but more so on hourly workers who have children who are not in school, but don't get paid if they don't work, even when everything else is shut down.

I recognize some of the people in these pictures.
These kids are NOT the children of overworked servers. A couple of them live in the Intercontinental condos. The other ones may be friends or neighborhood kids. One (maybe more) of the parents are visible in the later photos so I would imagine they were nearby and knew exactly what the kids were doing.
I know that area. It's unimaginable that parents would knowingly allow their kids to play on top of that snow bank. Bordered on 2 sides by the frozen channel and the other side by that glass building kiosk. I'm trying to keep my emotions in check here, but the truth is it was downright NEGLIGENT.
That quick-thinking passerby saved the boy's life. Just a few minutes more in that water could have had very serious consequences. We need more good people like him - bravo!
