Snowplowing a tiny path

Boston Snowplow Dorchester

Quincy Quarry shows us how slowly plows have to go down his narrowed Dorchester street just to avoid taking out a car or two.

Don't let a good crisis go to waste...

This would be a great time for Marty Walsh to break the tradition of space savers and institute an even street side parking ban during all snow emergencies so that we can plow to curbs / remove snow, and then odd side paring bans for 24 hours after the emergency ends to plow the other side and remove excess snow as best as possible.

Lets do it.

This is a historic period for the city, but it's also a very good time to change BAU for the better.

While downtown and the areas right next to the harbor usually don't have much a problem during normal winters, those inland areas of the city do get bogged down with even normal Nor'Easters and Blizzards.

Lets fix this Marty.

Is there enough lot/garage space to accommodate this city-wide? It would probably work in my neighborhood, but I am not sure about other places in the city where there already isn't enough street space on both sides without snow.

Somerville opens up municipal lots and a bunch of private lots during snow emergencies.

It can also be done per-neighborhood.

Also, have you noticed that most streets are at half-capacity anyway? Ours is at less than that because of all the piles of snow.

We have an even side parking ban in Somerville. The even side isn't pushed back to the curb though. The first storm it could've been, but in most places wouldn't. At this point the snow banks can't stand any taller...

It makes more room for plows to work, but doesn't actually lead to more parking.

I live in Dorchester, and this is exactly what happens, except a truck like this doesn't fit, so we have a tractor/bulldozer type vehicle with a plow on the front. It goes that slow.
