Der Spiegel reports on our space-saver wars:
Schlacht um Parkplätze: Wildwest in Boston
Wer im verschneiten Boston einen Parkplatz freischaufelt, darf ihn für zwei Tage reservieren. Manche Einwohner wollen diese Sitte abschaffen - denn sie hat böse Folgen.
Meanwhile, you know it's bad when the Daily Mail is running photos of Boston space savers.
Also, the Daily Mail doesn't know anything about Boston:
South Boston, more commonly known as Southie, has banned the use of space savers

"Schlacht"?

"Schlacht"? I know things have been contentious, but I don't think it's come to slaughter yet.
EDIT: my mistake. "Slaughter" is "Schlachten." "Schlacht" is just "battle."
That would be more "wildwest"

There are no guns involved here - too in your face and involving direct personal interaction for Boston. That would be more like Texas or Florida or California. This is pure "wildeast": pissing in corners, daring people to not touch your "territory" that you don't own, cowardly property attacks, etc.

Sorry you love them but Gawker is a notoriously unjournalistic blog who has received criticism from all over for their hack writers, made up stories and other bullshit. Many of their stories are glorified journal posts that are played as news.
Lest we forget that they were behind the wrong suspects in the marathon bombings and didn't do any research. Then they claimed we were living in a martial law police state during the lockdown.

I think all of us, as Bostonians, can take credit for this one. Both savers and tossers, and especially whoever back in the 1970s started all of this. The line runs from then until now.
Or, of course, we can admit that the 4 feet of snow covering every bit of street that was neither plowed nor shoveled is to blame, but why point to the obvious.
(And you do realize that even in "world class" cities, crap goes on that the locals consider embarrassing. Tokyo has guys paid to push commuters into subway cars. Paris is unsafe to drive in, and some of the suburbs are unsafe in general. For something more local, while we cannot find seats on the subway, in New York City, guys spread their legs as wide as possible to the point that there is now a movement against leg spreading.)

Seriously. I don't own a car. Sure, when the T flopped over and went to the big station in the sky this winter, it sucked. But at least then I'm blameless for any of this parking stuff...

I've lived in bona fide 'World Class' cities, and was born and partially raised in one; life isn't all high class, and there's plenty of clutching the pearls.
And again, Boston (etc.,) IS NOT the only major city where space savers are a 'tradition', and other cities and areas have their iwn quirky 'traditions'.

Give the "world class" crap a rest. It's a stupid prize that only a fool would chase after. It's like winning a child beauty pageant or something, you're supposed to smile and applaud but you're really embarrassed for the fools who want it in the first place.

Recently German Chancellor Andrea Merkel remarked at a meeting on Greece loan refinancing that a proposal spoken in Greek on debt forgiveness didn't sound as good in German.
BTW, she is the one George W. Bush got handsy with at a G7 meeting, much like VP Joe Biden the other day.
