Guess when this snow pile in Somerville will melt and you could win a $25 Union Square Donuts gift certificate:
The pile is trapezoidal in shape, with the front side coming in at 11’9″, the back about 18′ and the two other sides at 27′. And it’s 7’8″ tall. That means it contains 3,113 cubic feet of snow and weighs in at 15,563 pounds or about seven metric tons.

What if there's a car under that pile? Do we have to predict when that will melt too?

Let's make it fair. Don't pile any more on top of it. Somehow I don't think that will happen :(

How will the contest determine when the snow has "melted" - is this the day there is absolutely no trace indication of precipitation in that entire spot? I could see how when the snow pile is reduced to a puddle, one could claim that the snow has melted while another claims that until the puddle has evaporated, the snow hasn't really melted at all.

There's a definition of when the pile is "melted."

This is nicer than my response, which is "why don't you read the rules instead of asking others to do it for you?"

Plus, when snow melts, it becomes water. So the argument that the snow hasn't melted is ludicrous.

Is it?
I'm sorry, but I'm trying to figure out what is meant by "snow has melted." If there is still water, yes, the snow has melted - but water remains, which is a component of snow, right? I kinda just want the contest to say: "Give us the date that the snow pile has become a complete puddle of water" otherwise, there is an opportunity for nitwits like me to wonder when snow has completely melted.

Probably a bit on the outside, but I have other bets going for other snow piles, and I want to spread the option of winning one of them.
