Around 5:50 p.m., Ryan McGee reported:
What a difference a day has made: North Station crowds normal at 6 pm for first time in weeks.
Danielle Dulcinos responds:
Pretty similar scene at South Station. Only minor delays it seems and thin crowds. Eerie.
Yesterday:
As subways, bus routes slowly improve, commuter rail remains the province of the damned.

Made it to and from work with no real delays. Well, sort of...
Oh, come on people, the "7:49" inbound train from West Roxbury is ALWAYS late!!
The 7:08 is almost always on time, though...

I sometimes ride the 7:08 out of Highland when I have the chance or I don't want to traipse through Forest Hills.
Most of the time, the Needham Line has been the most reliable of the system. Ever since the storms hit, the trains have been the victims of being cancelled to have their equipment be placed on other lines.
South Station has been, in the most generous of terms, hell with the lid off. On Wednesday, I wanted to take the 6:25 train, but of course, it was delayed, so back to the Orange Line I went...only to sit at DTX for 45 minutes as people said, "Ooh, Oak Grove is back on line? Quick, stuff onto all the trains before they change their minds!"
The past couple of days, I've taken the Route 52 bus from Watertown Yard back to West Roxbury. Factoring out waiting for the buses, it was a decent hour trip. Even this morning's Orange Line trip was pleasant - very little crowding, and only a slight delay at Back Bay.
We shall see next week whether the Needham Line returns to its better known form.
I got to work from home today

Thank you God!
My employer got three extra hours of work from me because I didn't commute!
It was a beautiful thing...

I think I had a lucky day. Although..
the Red Line train before mine was evacuated at Charles due to something burning somewhere in the train. The smell residue was still so strong in Kendall when I arrived. And I missed the delays caused by the fire in Central. Long delays, due to switching problems, occurred on train to Providence.
One has to take what one get get.
