Jerry the Tailor on Boylston Street can refer you to a woman who does reweaving in the North End. Her work is excellent but extremely expensive.

No, but I know of a place that can repair holes in sweaters near the armpit.

Yarn Shops
Check in with Stitch House Dorchester or JP Knit & Stitch. I know, neither are 'near' Allston. But there you have it.
I was thinking more along these lines.
Gather Here in Cambridge might be the closest knitting store. It all depends on the sweater. If it's a thin cashmere sweater with moth holes all over the front then that may take some doing, but if it's fixing a hole under the arm or somewhere less visible them Id take it to a dry cleaner/seamstress. Not a lot of people know how to do "invisible darns."
True.
Porter Sq has Mind's Eye, also.
