I'm sick of this.

I saw this post early this morning and thought to myself how long before someone associates being Irish and being drunk. I held my tongue (keyboard actually) with the comments a few days ago on the shrinking of the Evacuation Day / St. Patrick's Parade Route.
Therefore I am now looking forward to everyone gleefully accepting any comments on this board about blacks shooting each other, Chinese driving poorly, Italians being in the Mafia, Muslims being terrorists, Jews controlling the media, etc. since anti-Irish posts are seemingly acceptable.
We have a frat in some flyover state expressing their true nature and everyone is aghast and shocked and holding hands and expressing outrage. Associating being Irish and being an alcoholic, Ha Ha that's funny.
Adam, you are very diligent about calling out anti-Semitic posts here. A little understanding for the unwashed Sons of the Green Fields might be nice as well.

While I don't normally agree with your comments, I think you're spot on with this one.

So only Irish people get served green drinks until they vomit on St. Patrick's Day? It isn't just an excuse to watch a parade and then go drink yourself blind at bars offering bizarre "themed" concoctions regardless of your ethnicity?
Sorry - I didn't know about that restriction. I guess Mexicans will just have to wait to show their ID on May 5.

"Erin Go Barf" was the racist saying, not Green Beer, which if anyone is drinking anything green which is typically not on St. Patrick's Day they should be brought over to Northern Ave or out to Cisco in Madaket and being shot.
Don't get so offended when it wasn't you making the offending comment. The sun is the center of our planetary system, not you.

St. Patrick's day is an American invention, and a secular one at that.
Your faux outrage on both accounts is highly amusing.
Secular?

Obviously you have never been in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day. I got my arse hauled to church, and it wasn't a Sunday.
As far as me being offended, yes I am offended by repeated anti-Irish slurs. That is enough for me. I don't give a damn about whatever your moral compass is or isn't, mine doesn't like it.
I'm done feeding you for the day.

A friend of mine was astonished we did not go to Mass on St. Patrick's Day when he first came to America from Ireland. He went and still continues to do so.
I remember he and I taking our little ones trick or treating his first Halloween here. He was so embarassed by his children "begging" for candy.
Just little cultural differences at the time. Now, he and his friends are pretty busy on St. Patrick's Day, after Mass of course.
Thank you.

John Costello,
I'll first start off and stating that I am truly am sorry. I had NO idea that would be received as being 'racist' and it was not intended that way. I would have not said that if I had know (I plead ignorance!)I was more replying to Swirly and her barfing comment. But I am truly sorry. I've removed the comment.
However, with that said, not to stick up for Swirly but I do agree with what she is saying. In my 15+ years in Boston, I've just come to realize that St Patrick's Day is a far different event than in Ireland. Here, unfortunately, it is a big drink-all-day-and-be-rowdy-and-obnoxious fest, and yes.. barfing does happen. It sucks that Americans have taken the holiday and turned it into that, but it's just how it is. Its the same that Memorial Day is about BBQs instead of remembering people who have died for our freedoms, or how Christmas is now about going broke shopping vs Christ's Birthday. It sucks, but it's just how it is.
Anyhow, please accept my apology, and again, I plead total 'dumbass' that I didn't know that would be taken in that manner. Again, I am sorry.
PS - I also apologize for NOT doing this sooner, I have just been busy today and paying attention to other threads.

Yes, St. Patrick's Day in Boston is a clown fest of the highest order. I will not deny it. I avoid South Boston this time of the year at all costs. It is watching your idiot cousin go on a bender. I had just got to the point where open attacks on "Irish" behavior, especially on these supposed well thought out boards are pushing me to a Paranoid Rob Lowe level of concern.
While I partake of Guinness, the McDonaghs, and the Dubliners more than Yeats, Beckett, and Joyce, I still feel it is open season to make fun of assumed ethnic caricatures of the Irish around here more than other groups. Thanks man.
Is making fun of Boston's St. Patrick's day celebration....

... as it exists (including the post-parade aftermath) really anti-Irish. Or are a number of aspects of the "celebration" itself not profoundly insulting to St. Patrick, Ireland and the Irish people?
(speaking as one who is merely 5/16ths Irish) ;-)
Is the parade going through the Public Garden?

We have a photo of the Make Way For Ducklings statues with Green hats on and someone assumed drinking. That's profiling.
