Kinda calls into question the totals for all the previous storms, too. Don't see why they had to inflate this mere dusting to record-breaking proportions though. Apparently we get an average of over 2 inches of snow in APRIL, for heaven's sake.So chances are we'd be breaking the record legitimately soon enough.
But hell, if it makes people happy to have been here for the Snowpocalypse, I guess there's no real harm.

I honestly don't think the NWS would fudge any numbers. They actually frown upon that.
Just because your walk had a 'dusting' doesn't mean there wasn't more. The way the NWS measures snow is different than just sticking a ruler into the ground. It may appear that you had a dusting, but it could be more.
On a different note, as someone who lives a mile from Logan, I can tell you we did get at least 2" at my house and it was snowing pretty darn hard there for a while, so Logan is probably correct.

at least in North Cambridge and West Somerville. It didn't last long, maybe an hour, but while it was happening it looked like any of the earlier bigger storms. At its height, you couldn't see much further than a city block. And it left lawns, sidewalks, and streets coated with a new layer of snow.
I expect today's sunshine and above-freezing temperatures to quickly melt at least as much snow as fell yesterday.

Cold weather, record snow. Let us drive and its China's turn to go back to bicycling!
Facts are that we had below average temps this winter and way above average snow. In contrast, its only a theory that humans are responsible for climate change. A delusion is that we can stop or reverse the alleged changes.
The truth is that the earth has had both warmer and colder temperatures then now, and yet kept rotating. Well, that's a theory too since humans weren't around to record it.

You conflated seasonal weather with climate, regional effects with overall planetary conditions, and the one-dimensional measure of temperature with the 2nd+3rd order effects of rapid climate change.
You may think you sound clever, but mostly you sound like someone who slept through Earth Science class in high school. You're just embarrassing yourself and damaging your already tenuous reputation.
So, is this record warm?
By Markk02474
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 2:44am
And the earth is is uncontrollably headed to its highest temperatures ever? Well, maybe LA where its 90 degrees. Oh, so few people have the humor to appreciate the irony of record snowfall in the face of global warming claims.
Yup, kids in schools have been brainwashed throughout history.

Mon, 03/16/2015 - 6:18am
You do realize that while we're getting snow, Alaska is getting very little, right? A possible explanation for why this winter and last winter were so cold here: Global warming is disrupting the jet streams that normally keep the cold bottled up over the arctic. Because, outside of New England, temperatures are, in fact, rising.
You know how I know that you
By tofu
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 9:34am
You know how I know that you don't know what you're talking about? Because what you're talking about is not how things work. Climate change is going to increase the strength and quantity of extreme events. It's going to make NE colder and wetter. Which is exactly what happened this year. It's too early to beat the drum yet, but we should be concerned.
So how come we got cold and not warmth?
By Markk02474
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 12:03pm
Can we trade? Or is New England going to keep getting colder winters while the west coast of North America gets more tropical?
So, why exactly are we getting cold here? Why are jet streams mostly bringing cold here, instead of warmth?
I'm not wanting a simplistic answer like that in the movie Idiocracy, "'Because Brawndo has electrolytes!". That's the nanometer deep media message parroted by this crowd and fed to children.

According to a malware site?
By Markk02474
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 2:25pm
The New England Climate Coalition web site seems to be a hacked site for the gullible, or just devoid of information.
The aquarium site states: "By 2100, temperatures could increase by about 4 degrees in winter and spring and about 5 degrees in summer and fall."
"Could" is the operative word.

Broken website
By Kaz
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 3:05pm
The NECC website seems to have a broken security certificate is all. Looks like the verifying agency used by GoDaddy! changed since they implemented it, but I didn't dig deeper into why their https is failing for a root cause. And no it's not "according to a malware site", since the NECC is a coalition of multiple regional agencies looking into the same issue, not a website. So, you're intentionally mischaracterizing the Aquarium's referenced source in an attempt to discredit its data (ad hominem, "you're ugly so you can't be right"). In any case, feel free to read their '03 report here: http://cdn.publicinterestnetwork.org/assets/H24OyJ...
Or, you could argue facts instead of attempting to continually shoot the messenger ("climate change isn't true because today's evidence was sourced from a group whose website sucks").
If you don't know the difference...

What happens when we have above average ocean temperatures off the cape / eastern seaboard hitting the cold wall that is a New England Winter?
[img]http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/service/global/map-b...
Here's a hint, Climate change doesn't mean winter just goes away. It does mean a lot more energy in ocean and weather systems we get. It also is forecast for New England to get much wetter, which in the winter means snow, in addition to weakening the jet stream and allowing cold air to drop south out of the arctic more often (ie more frequent polar vortex)
Screwed up jet stream
By SwirlyGrrl
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 10:16am
You left out the sinusoidal insanity known as the jet stream, which explains how a warming planet can mean more snow for us. On the West Coast, all the heat has resulted in what is called the Ridiculously Resistant Ridge, sending the jet stream north with warm air for Alaska and parching the west coast. My brother has had a very mild winter in Alberta, too. Then it dives down over us, carrying arctic air, just in time for a meet up with the extra warm ocean temps offshore, which bear a lot of moisture and heat energy. Boom!
The jet stream's track this year makes as much sense as Markkkkk's ramblings, and yet its ramblings are actual and real.

The Dog
By SwirlyGrrl
Mon, 03/16/2015 - 12:15pm
The Dog is the jet stream this winter, which is headed the same direction as the man.
The dog is wet because he detoured around the rock (massive heat-related ridge in the west), into the water (arctic), and then wandered back and shook on the warm, dry man (snowsplosion).
