Is that because it might actually take the lazy iphone toting hipsters working there about 24 hours to fill your sandwich order?
I don't understand why Clover became such a thing. Most of the trucks in Kendall square make better tasting food faster with a tenth the staff for half the price. And they manage to remember your order (and even your name) without ostentatiously typing it into a phone.
Better a Clover than another 24/7 McDonald's serving poison all day and night. They employ a lot of people and make some pretty decent food and beverages. Just because there are a lot of hipsters eating there doesn't mean it isn't a fine establishment. Granted, I've only been to Clover once at their Kendall Square location but my experience there was definitely pleasant. Stop hatin' my G.
Your "Hipster' criticism is stupid seeing how people now refer to anyone who's white and under 30 as a hipster. But I'll agree about the iphone names, cost, and quality of food.
For the patron names, stop it with the stupid name. Just give people a pickup number. This works just fine for every ethnic take out place since time began and it will work fine for you.
I'm not normally one to complain about restaurant prices -- it's not an easy business and people don't understand a restaurant isn't a supermarket. But I'll make an exception to Clover. Everything I've ordered from their trucks has been tiny and costs a tremendous amount given the amount and quality of the food. The food isn't bad but it isn't great and nothing that's worth a trip. I also find the owner's "we're better then you" attitude to be grating.
I'm always happy when a restaurant is 24/7 so I wish them luck. I just hope other restaurants without the attitude and with better food start going 24/7 as well.
C'mon, cut them some slack, it's Cambridge; almost everybody has a 'We're better than you' attitude. It helps to be skinny, young (under 25), 'hip', etc., etc.
Equal more expensive prices. Well, except at Papa John's, where they're able to use better ingredients AND make better pizza! Go figure!
I'm sure Clover could put together a $3 sandwich if they were a Sysco business with huge wholesale buying power. Though if a sandwich large enough to satiate an average adult can be had for $3, don't eat it unless you hate your health.
That said, CloverDWY ran out of fries once again before 1pm. THAT is something to get up in arms about!

...it's a sweatshop where they dock their workers' pay to make up for what Obamacare supposedly costs them (and in reality because John Schnatter doesn't think a 25% increase in profits is enough).
Hi-Fi was a beloved late-night institution, was closed when the landlord said the space could not be used for a restaurant, but almost immediately Clover has grabbed the lease.
At 2am, I want a delicious slice of Hi-Fi pizza, not a dry, tasteless "chickpea fritter".
I was one of the first customers at the original Clover truck at MIT, and usually really like one of their sandwiches, but I'm not forgiving them for the suspicious replacement of Hi-Fi.
Nor am I forgiving them for the food poisoning scare (c'mon, it's an open kitchen, and we can see the sloppy practices of some of your workers).
Nor am I forgiving them for the last time I was there, and some obviously very stoned and/or very sick worker was having great trouble making my sandwich (called me over 3 times throughout the process for no reason, was incoherent, was sweating and wiping head with hands, eventually gave me a ridiculous-looking jumble of ingredients) with no adult supervision around. Then I found that somehow the stoned/sick worker had managed to get some large bone-hard like thing into the vegetarian "meat".
We expect many food service workers to have a quick toke on break, not complaining about that, but even McDonald's inspires more confidence about food safety and supervision.
I used to love HiFi when I was coming in from the Route 70 bus from Waltham and I didn't feel like BK or McDonalds. Their steak sandwiches were very good.
Just curious--what "suspicious" activities re the Hi-Fi space do you suspect them of? Blackmailing the landlord into booting Hi Fi? And come on...you just protest too much. You savor your greasy crap 2am pizza but you're finicky and "unforgiving" when it comes to a salmonella outbreak which was, IMO, dealt with very transparently--salmonella isn't generally tied to bad kitchen hygiene. You just sound as if you have an ill-concealed personal grudge. And no, before you ask--I have no connection to Clover, go pretty rarely, but I've never had anything "dry" and "tasteless" there. Maybe you'd better stick to greasy pizza.
...across the river, Little Steve's actually served a damn good slice, even if the place was a bit "slice o' life" at times. AFAIK it still does, but I haven't been there in a while.

It's some sort of weird cult like Starbucks.
Why you hatin'?

Somewhat Agree

I think Clover is good, not
I think Clover is good, not great. But most other late-night food in Central Square is pretty bad, so this is a big plus for the neighborhood.
'We're better than you'

Your lawn
Does this Clover location happen to be on your lawn?
Sandwiches at Clover are $6.
Sandwiches at Clover are $6. Where are you finding sandwiches for $3, in the 1950's?
Better ingredients...

That was old Central Square

I miss Hi Fi Pizza
Greasy as their pizza was, it was an institution, especially late at night. Hey, I'm as hip as the next guy, but food has gotten way too artsy lately.
Agenda much?

no personal grudge at all
my complaints are exactly what i said.
"delicious slice of Hi Fi pizza"
Now there's a contradiction in terms.
(Little Steve's!)
Hi-Fi was for desperate
Hi-Fi was for desperate people with no other options.
Maybe some weird people find charm in filthy tables with broken seats. But I don't care -- Clover will be an improvement for the rest of us.
Yeah, and
