Torso found in duffle bag in Cambridge

UPDATE: The DA's office reports a suspect is in custody and that investigators have identified the victim - although they are withholding his or her name pending notification of next of kin. Cambridge Police say "this was not a random act," and there is no threat to the public.

Police have sealed off a two-block area around Binney and Sixth - and have evacuated residents.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's office reports on the murder investigation at 225 Binney St.

Preliminary observations reveal that a duffle bag was found this morning which contains human remains.

Just in time for Easter. Maybe people will find the other duffel bags containing the rest of the participant!

Almost opposite Cambridge PD HQ. I walk by 225 Binney St. almost every day.

Crap. The Kendall square wild turkeys have really upped their game.

I bounce between Biogen BIO7, BIO6 and BIO10 all the time and I've never trusted those sketchy birds. By coddling them this long we've apparently allowed them evolve into murderous tool-users. The end is near.

Can they really evacuate an apartment building and make you hand over your keys.... wouldn't it have to a Hazmat situation .. or something similar...

That does sound illegal (the keys). You'd think they'd need a warrant same as if they wanted to enter your house.

if there is imminent danger the police can enter without a warrant.

no threat to the public.

Probably just don't want people tromping around the crime scene.

Edit:

additional human remains were found in a common area inside the (apartment) building.

Yikes.

that building is mostly well off, mostly foreign, students, including grads. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but no question it's not a cheap place to live.

There are actually a number of start ups who take over apartments in those buildings while they wait for space.

Also, I work around the corner, and there are a number of young families and the like there as well. I know when some of our higher ups first moved to the area they rented there because they do month to month and nearly always have openings.

Same spot the guys got car jacked after the bombings right? At 3rd and Binny?

Looking at the link I am wrong, I didn't know there were apartments in that building. I was thinking it was on the other side of biogen. That being said I would guess they are exactly the same kind of place as Archstone Kendal.

No, they can't. But good luck finding a single person in Massachusetts with enough of a spine to actually stand up to them on stuff like this. (I live in N.H., not Massachusetts anymore.)

Do you work in MA?

It's always amusing when bitter, jealous New Hampshire folk decide to sneer at Massachusetts... on the location-specific Massachusetts website that they troll.

Isn't Easter the annual First Sunday of Burning Garbage Piles In The Backyard up there? Shouldn't you be minding that before your doublewide ignites? Or are you on your morning meth break?

When you have to drive ten miles to get anywhere, or a fifty mile one-way trip each day into Boston because there are no jobs in NH, gotta make sure the 10mpg SUV is running!

Here I thought that these sorts of gruesome murders were more often countrified fare anyway.

I hope Anontroll is having fun living free!

If NH is so bad, why do I see so many MA plates over there, especially during long weekends? I am not even a big fan of NH, but maybe the two of you should stop reinforcing the Masshole stereotype and organize an offline support group for your misinformed NH-hating circle-jerk.You give the rest of us a bad name.

Relax, it's a response to a guy calling everyone in Mass spineless, not out of the blue bashing. Judge not, lest ye be judged, the former Mass anon and now proud New Hampshire-rite did not heed, and now he reaps what he sowed.

Carlos Colina, 32, is being held on $1 million cash bail. He is charged with being an accessory after the fact to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, and improper disposal of a body. The victim was identified Monday as Jonathan Camilien, 34.

Other sources reported that Colina lived in the apartment building across from where the duffel bag was found and that his apartment contained cleaning materials, a bloody saw and rope. The victim's head was placed in the building's recycling container. Video had showed the two men alive together.
