You might want to try Morrison's on Centre St. I was a long time customer of another mechanic who ripped off my girlfriend so both of us have started going to Morrison's. I have only been there once, but, so far, I like them and trust them...

Brighton suggestion

May not be convenient for you, but my neighborhood mechanics at the Comm Ave. Gulf station in Brighton don't rip you off and are friendly at that. They'll also only charge labor if you buy the parts and bring them yourself, which I find helpful. I'm highly sensitive to condescending mechanics, and they always have me come in the shop and see what they're doing, whether or not I even understand. Good guys to know.

Boston mechanics

Patrick from West Cork is definitely very cool. He actually told me at one point, that he prefers dealing with women and that most of his customers are women. He's always been very fair, not always inexpensive, but always fair with a special eye towards safety.

Another good place is Ron's Automotive on Washington St. in Roslindale. Ron is a little rough around the edges but also always fair and usually works quite quickly.
