To long time residents that gully by the pond is the sugar bowl.
I've heard it called the dog bowl.

Yes Southie residents do refer to the pleasure bay lagoon as the sugar bowl. But old time plainsmen know that big gully by the pond as the sugar bowl too. The smaller gully that is in front of the old pine bank mansion location used to be full rambles and bushes, it was known as the pepper bowl.
