Police: Three teens who mugged man at Back Bay T stop quickly apprehended

Transit Police report arresting three teens - two 15 and one 16 - on charges they wrenched a man's iPhone 5s out of his hand after he got off an inbound Orange Line train at Back Bay around 12:40 p.m. yesterday.
Police say the victim got on at Roxbury Crossing, where four teens were already sitting:
At one point one of the juveniles asked to listen to his headphones. The victim declined. The victim exited his train at Back Bay station, as he was walking on the platform and utilizing his Apple iPhone 5S suddenly one of the juveniles, who were seated across from him, forcefully ripped the phone from his hand and fled along with the 3 other juveniles.
Police say the alleged criminal masterminds then boarded a train and got off at Downtown Crossing - near which three of the four were quickly apprehended.
One of the juveniles was in possession of the victim's phone and all were positively identified by the victim.
The three were charged with being delinquent by reason of unarmed robbery.

Assuming the owner of the phone wasn't a total rube and had set up the security properly, a 5S (and above) is pretty much a paperweight if you don't have the phone's password, and the user's iTunes password.
Just a stupid way to end up in juvie.
This is true
even as far back as iPhone 4 for needing the iCloud password.
He was a rube
Basic rule of situational awareness is that if someone asks you something like "Can I see your watch" or "Can I listen to your headphones" you keep your wits about you and your items secured until that person is long gone.

They announced that they were planning to rob him. That he didn't pick up on it suggests that he's new to an urban environment.
Here are some other tips:
Yeah, it's their fault for robbing him, but if sketchy folks telegraph their intentions one is an idiot for not immediately decreasing the appeal of a snatch and grab. Put the phone in your pocket, take the headphones off your ears, and keep your wits about you. Make plans for getting out of the situation. Don't ignore the obvious just because you're in a different place.
He might have thought
they were still on the train.
Or he might have felt he was at a safe enough distance from them to call Transit Police. See something, say something, and all.

You should keep an IPhone secure especially when people are being shady. I've had mine stolen @ work. How quickly it came back since it was password protected Thank God
